New Draw Ropes

[link to this post]

Now, in the area where I live, Openreach (I assume ?) seem to have run in brand new and shiny (literally) blue draw-ropes into lots of their existing ducting. Many of their poles (or shared SSE ones) have the new ropes tied around the base.

What's all that about then ?!

They are proving the duct is clear and its now ready for a cable to be pulled in.

I suspected that is what you was hoping someone would say and although its more likely than a copper cable I have no way to confirm what your hoping for smile

Ha ! Well, it's quite a lot of ducts that are showing the ropes, so I live in hope.
There's local notice that Openreach are closing a road soon, to enable them to replace a pole. I've taken a look at that existing pole, it has a new rope, but the pole itself is a very slim diameter. Anyway, I won't get too excited yet. All this work is the other side of a mainline railway that chops our village in half. Nothing visibly happening yet on our side of the tracks frown

Have a look at the roadworks in your area via https://one.network/uk/ and check out the ones with telecoms icons. Sometimes they'll have a clue in the project reference that it's part of a fibre rollout. Half the time it's just a meaningless project ref though. But if there are lots and lots of works being done then it's a good bet it's some sort of major rollout and Openreach won't be doing much of anything that isn't fibre these days.

Interesting. Thank you. I took a look, no reference numbers, but it seems there is a fair amount of Openreach activity planned. There's a cluster of work later this month, and another cluster (including the pole replacement I mentioned) in April
