FTTP for undeground connections

[link to this post]

Atternoon everyone,

Just for my information, I know lots of FTTP is via Poles, what's generally the process for lines that are underground?

If your copper line comes in underground via a duct, then generally they'll pull the fibre cable through the same duct.

If your copper line is buried Direct-In-Ground (DIG), then they'll look at other options, including installing a pole for an overhead feed.

No problem. That is for Openreach, altnets may be different. Some altnets use Openreach ducts and/or poles where available; others dig their own microducts or install their own poles.

Our road had copper (FTTC) via ducts, but it was found that the ducts to the property were unsuitable (too small) for FTTP. As a result the road was initially bypassed, but after complaining to OR CEO this was reviewed.

Poles were considered, but rejected. New ducts were then installed along the road to the boundary of each property "Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Pre built to curtilage Hard" and then new ducts on each property when an order was placed.

I ordered FTTP 11 days ago. On Monday, OR advised that there was a delay on my connection. Yesterday, unannounced, two OR vans appeared outside my home. The guys then proceeded to push a rod from my house through the existing duct to the underground chamber. They then pulled through a fibre optic cable which they connected to a Connectorised Block Terminal and to a new Customer Service Point screwed onto the wall of my home. It took them about 30 minutes. I still have no idea when the Optical Network Terminal will be fitted.
