ONT siting rules

[link to this post]

Hi guys
So I've pre ordered fttp with BE Fibre, hopefully be up and running I the next few months.
So I can get ready for the install, are there any rules on where the internal and external ONT can be fitted.
The location that appears to be best for them both is in the same location as where the sat and tv aerial come into the living room, do the ONTs need to be right at ground level?, the line will come I overhead.
Currently the line comes in via a bedroom then into living, but will ask to have enter the living room , as it is at least 5m shorter and more direct. (I'll make a drawing up if it helps anyone)
I know the ONT is powered but does it make much noise? If they refuse to relocate the entry point it'll be right next to the bed, what with the lights possibly flashing all night and then possible noise, do t think the missus would be overly happy.
Hope that makes some sense
Cheers as always
Lee

BE Fibre is independent of Openreach/Virgin etc so you will start with a clean slate so no relocation of existing services.

All the ONTs I've come across have been fanless and silent.

In any case, hopefully they will give you a choice of where you really want it installed. It doesn't have to bear any relation to where the Openreach service comes in.

Although ONTs and small ISP supplied routers are all generally silent (no fans or moving mechanicals), personally I would prefer it installed outside of a bedroom setting if possible.

Note that the the BE T&Cs give some decent degree of cabling length / routing:

“a standard installation (comprising of a maximum of 15 metres external cabling, 10 metres internal cabling and a router), for which there will be no charge (though it might turn out that on visiting your property, the engineer realises a bespoke installation is needed (see paragraph 11.8)”

So I’d say you should be OK
