I currently have SoGEA with IDNet that has been flawless for the past 12 months, but is relatively expensive so I've been considering a move. Unfortuately, migrating SoGEA doesn't seem straight forward. TTB sales didn't even know waht SoGEA was, but said they couldn't migrate anyway without a phone number. All the other ISP's that I've spoken to still only provision FTTC and can't migrate from SoGEA.
It also seems like a retrograde step to move to FTTC!
Are there any of the cheaper providers that can migrate SoGEA to SoGEA or SoGEA to FTTC? Otherwise I presume that I'll have to get a new FTTC install and cease SoGEA afterwards.

If you're talking to TTBusiness, then presumably you're not looking at the very bottom of the barrel?
Searching this forum for the term "SoGEA" suggests that Zen and Unchained may do it.
Sky, Vodafone and BT all do digital voice via the router, so are worth talking to (although of course you'll end up with a voice number that you don't want).
Clueful small ISPs like Aquiss will at least understand your question and give you a straight answer - but I don't know how much cheaper they'll be than IDNet.
(EDIT: Aquiss show packages which "Exclude telephone line rental" and "Include telephone line rental", which I interpret to mean they *aren't* doing SoGEA yet)

Zen Residential uses SoGEA, since sometime end Jan / start Feb. Their prices are £29.99 for 40/10 and £34.99 for 80/20, similar to IDNet £30 for 40/10 and £36 for 80/20. CIX also offer SoGEA, £32.40 for 40/10 and £34.80 for 80/20.
Unless you go for a larger provider who offers discounts but has much higher out-of-contract prices that is likely to be the going rate, e.g. Plusnet 40/10 currently on offer for £22.99 for 18 months, then £41.75.
Providers can place an order with Openreach against a line to premises without having the phone number, and also "Conversion of SoGEA to a single Wholesale Access line" then add FTTC. If front-line sales can't it is either lack of training or their systems are not yet ready to handle SoGEA - this will actually prevent them from providing products in the current ~250 Fibre Priority "stop sell" areas to the premises where FTTP is not available (it can be upto 25% of premises in an exchange area).

Thanks, all
I still think it's strange that, as SoGEA is the future, many providers haven't got their act together yet!

You would be correct. SoGEA products are working the way through our development and commercial slates at the moment.

And if that is the case you think it appropriate to act in the same manner?

We do SoGEA migrations, new installs and FTTC to SoGEA. The number of providers that do support this should ramp up over the coming year.

Sounds like you never went to school otherwise you would have never posted an unrelated comment in this thread, but good for you that you're happy with your IDNet 80/20 SoGEA connection.

Zen couldn't do an ADSL -> SoGEA upgrade though (as of a month ago)... So you might want to call them or message them to confirm.

Same here. I'm with Zen and they won't currently do an FTTC -> SOGEA migration for me either, without ceasing the service, losing the landline no etc. (I want to port the landline no to VoIP, but I can't).

I migrated from Plusnet FTTC + CIX WLR to Zen SoGEA in February and it all went smoothly, I was half-expecting to something to go wrong with the previous services being supplied by two different providers. I didn't keep the landline number but could have moved it to Zen Digital Voice at the same time.
It's bizzare they can't migrate existing customers.

I am also the customer with UnchainedISP SoGEA FTTC 80/20 all went smoothly as i don't bother with any landline calls as I lose landline number but who care as I am deaf hardly use it.
