Speedtest and latency in Jersey

[link to this post]

Hi - I was about to move to Jersey for work and was curious about their internet over there. I have seen a few articles stating that they have on average the fastest internet in UK.

I'm curious about latency and ping times. Is anyone here based in Jersey that can see what latency you get to London and Paris based servers?

Thanks.

Correct. All properties have access to Jersey Telecom's FTTP network. Their latency is normally excellent.

FTTP was completed in 2018:

Prices here from JT, but others (e.g. Sure) may use the JT infrastructure.

Similar to the Isle of Man, the UK operators don’t exist on the Channel Islands, mobile or fixed line.

For accuracy Jersey is not part of the UK, its a British Crown Dependency and also forms part of the British isles but is not part of the UK or Great Britain.

My full respect goes out to the Channel Islands.

Thank you smile.

Is there any website where I can check latency from Jersey to London / Paris servers?

Or is my best bet to wait for someone from there to message.

JT are peered in London and Paris (at least from the publicly available data) - https://www.peeringdb.com/net/2016

Looking at the undersea cables I would expect latency to London to be similar to that as London from the north of England. Latency to Paris should be marginally quicker.

What are you trying to achieve here? On a FTTH connection ethernet, assume 1ms latency to ISP gateway from CPE/ONT etc (could be a lot less), and maybe 2-5ms from jersey to london or paris. You'd be looking at no more than 10ms latency is my guess, which is about the same that wifi adds.

Not sure of many applications apart from high frequency trading that need to be faster than that?

If it's for gaming it will be totally fine.
