Cerberus price increases

[link to this post]

Just by chance I noticed that Cerberus have quietly increased some of their FTTP prices:

* 150/30 from £35+VAT to £38+VAT per month
* 300/50 from £40+VAT to £42.50+VAT per month
* 450/70 from £50+VAT to £53.50+VAT per month
* 900/110 remains at £60+VAT

I'm up for renewal in 2 months, so I will be reconsidering (although I haven't been directly notified of the price rise yet)

Easy enough to get lower prices elsewhere; just walk away from such an increase.

I was thinking that, if you're with Cerberus over Openreach cabling, then move to any other Openreach available ISP upon renewal.

Sucks if the contract terms let them increase the price whilst you are still in the minimum period.

I don't think it does - these are published prices for new customers - but my contract ends in September.

I got the service in 2019 (FTTPoD) on a 12 month contract, and since then have recontracted every 12 months because the price went *down* each time. But now I'll look more seriously at other options.

I remember the 'good old days' when Cerberus prices were dropping rather than increasing. Such is life I guess.

Sadly it happens, the cost of living have gone up, energy prices have increased. £3 a month? mmm, maybe a little high, but that brings it up to other provider prices.
If the OP don't want to pay it then they either try and get a deal when their contract is out or go to another provider. The reason I did not stay with plusnet was because they did not give me a good enough offer.

In my experience with them Max (when I had FoD and then native FTTP with them for another year) - they were actually pretty good to deal with and quite good as a provider with decent enough backhaul etc.

They are still very a small, niche operator and I would hazard as pointed out already (if not obvious to anyone in the last 12 months) they too have increasing costs of overheads, wages & salaries, electricity, rent and equipment cost. All of which have gone one way.

It's perhaps too simplistic to just say "greedy company" without thinking about more, before metaphorically shouting though your keyboard 😁

If the contract terms are broadly the same as what they were when I was with them, then no - the price remains constant during the term. There was no CPI+ ratcheting mechanism, unlike the big mainstream guys.

This may have changed now, but certainly wasn't the case before.

Cerberus prices have gone up again, exactly 4% across the board this time:

* 150/30 from £38 to £39.52
* 300/50 from £42.50 to £44.20
* 450/70 from £53.50 to £55.64
* 900/110 from £60 to £62.40

Also, installation is up from £40 to £55. (All prices exc VAT)

I don't know exactly when it changed, but it was still the old pricing on 18 July according to archive.org (which has nothing more recent)

Doesn't affect me though, as I switched to Aquiss last year.

Seems like a slightly odd time of year for an across the board price uplift. Then again maybe not.

RPI/CPI + x% annual ratcheting seems to be baked into so many agreements these days: as long as Cerberus are still keeping the price stable for the term of the agreement, then I suppose it’s fair enough. Maybe this is their way of getting ahead of the forthcoming Ofcom rule change that comes into effect in January…?

I believe that's the case: these are prices for new customers. Cerberus are still offering 12-month contracts, and if the terms are how they used to be, the prices are fixed for the whole duration of the term.

If the prices don't rise within the contract period, then I can't see there would be any impact. And if prices did rise within term, I expect they'd already display that information.

Also, I don't know if the retail price regulations apply to "business" products.

“Business” vs “Consumer” products: It’s a pretty fine line so far as Cerberus goes I think. Just prices displayed inclusive or exclusive of VAT. Pretty sure it’s identical contract terms or used to be anyway.

Nothing to do with Cerberus but I’ve discovered these egregious mid contract price rises in several business leased circuit and other agreements recently which never had them before. Appalling really.
