Community Fibre and FTTC question

[link to this post]

I have an 80/20 FTTC connection. A few days ago I saw that Community Fibre FTTP is now available in my street so I placed an order on their website.

Am I correct in thinking that Community Fibre uses its own fibre cables and, therefore, it won’t affect my current FTTC connection? That is, can I keep my current FTTC connection when Community Fibre is installed?

Thanks.

Yeah, ofcourse!
Community Fibre is an independent FTTP network that has nothing to do with FTTC since FTTC uses the Openreach copper line cable to deliver you a part fibre service from the Fibre street cabinet.

This is why so many people are confused and think they have Fibre when they don't. It is a Full Fibre service direct to your home.

You'll have an engineer visiting your property who will install for you a Fibre drop cable and a separate ONT on the wall without affecting your Openreach Master Socket.

If Openreach or any other Altnet FTTP network upgrade your area in future, in the same way it will be a separate Fibre cable entering alongside your Community Fibre service.

Thanks for the explanations and answers to my original question.

I have another question. I placed an order with Community Fibre and the install is scheduled for next week. I have not received any equipment (modem, router, and so on), so will the installer(s) bring the equipment with them on the day or do I need to be following up with Community Fibre for the equipment delivery?

They installed everything when they connected mine up a few years ago, I have since got an additional WiFi mesh router for the bedroom because I was losing signal for the lighting & mobile phone, more so when the door was closed, I already had the bedroom hardwired for Ethernet, so it was easy to pair the routers up for Mesh WiFi and then wire it up in the bedroom

Thanks. Did the installers bring the routers, and so on with them?

From previous installations, my experience has been that the internet service provider sends the routers, modems and so on prior to the connection date. I haven't received anything from Community Fibre so just wanted to check that it will all be brought on the day by the installers.

It was a couple of years ago, but I think they brought everything with them, don't worry about it, it will be all good on the day, you'll probably get a different router to mine, but I have never had a problem with it, they are also quite quick at fixing problems re: loss of service, some idiots do decide to cut the cabling sometimes

Can confirm they will bring everything you need - the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and the router. Had the service installed at my girlfriend's new flat, which was nearly identical to the one I had at mine a couple of years back.

Only difference is they no longer use an external black customer splice point - fibre cable goes directly into the house and terminates at a wall socket, akin to how a standard BT copper line is fed into a property.

I like my internet how I like my breakfast cereal...
