Changing CityFibre ISP, what happens for "install"

[link to this post]

I was just wanting to know. I am with TalkTalk for Cityfibre. I have my ONT on the wall, my router connected up and everything is fine.

I am switching to Yayzi this week and have my engineer install booked for Friday.

I am just not sure what that is going to entail? Will they need to come into my house, will they be switching my ONT over to a different one? What will they be doing for this install in terms of what is needed inside my house?

Anyone who has had a switch over of CityFibre ISPs could you explain what occurred for you please.

My understanding of an ISP switch on either CityFibre or Openreach full fibre networks is, they change the configuration remotely on the back end system and you change the ISP router at your end.

Yeah, but I'm not sure Cityfibre has a provider-to-provider migration facility in place.

I suspect it will be treated as "cease" on ISP1 followed by "provide" on ISP2, and the "provide" has ended up booking in an (unnecessary) engineer visit.

So will the engineer want in my house to get access to the ONT?

I ask as its in an awkward place and I wil need to move a lot of stuff for an engineer to get safe clear access to it.

I would say, move it prior to the visit, and save any grief.

Please describe how you would move an ONT which is generally on a short length of fibre coming through an external wall?

@Anth As the ISPs are on the same FTTP network the existing ONT should not need to be physically accessed, however there may be no defined migration/ re-configuration in place. They may want to replace it.

Nobody suggested moving the ONT .

It was the clutter blocking access that should be moved.

I didn’t suggest that, the poster further down the thread saw the correct meaning of what I posted.

In my opinion the "it " in the OP's post is referring to the ONT so that's how I read it. You meant something different which was ambiguous but never mind.

Problems with "it"

When will these pronouns stop being so confusing?

Just thought I'd add in here if not already mentioned. Cityfibre now have an isp-to-isp mirgration process in place.

I've recently moved from AAISP to idnet on Cityfibre. The change was straightforward I just had to change the login details in the firewall I use on the activation day quoted on the email I received.

Cityfibre connections generally use the same ONT once installed and carry any ISP's they have across the same connection.
