Hey Broadband Bridge Mode Question

[link to this post]

I am thinking of having Hey Broadband installed and am wondering if I want to use bridge mode does this have to be done when installed or can it be enabled at a later date? If so what would that entail?

Basically I want it installed ASAP but not have to buy my own router until the end of November (black friday)

From what I've seen, "bridge mode" means you'll get an ONT, and need your own router if requested at install.

Standard install means an all-in-one router that's highly locked down.

If you request "bridge mode" afterwards, either they're put their router into bridge mode, which is a bit messy, or they'll take their router back and provide an ONT instead.

Do you not have any router at all that you could use? Maybe pick up something cheap on eBay?

check your current router to see if has a wan interface....

Then do what andypandy has said, ie order ont install and then get your desired router during black friday.

Would it work with a BT Smarthub 2?

I'm not familiar with the BT equipment, but if you can set one of the LAN ports as a WAN port, then yes it should work.

You do not own BT Smarthub 2. BT ownes it, they charge you if don't send it back if they request it.

Also there no way changing setting like PPPoE or VLan. It is locked down to BT.

I know nothing about Hey but doesn't the BT Smarthub use PPPOE to authenticate whereas I would expect Hey to just use DHCP.

Hey completed my Bridge Mode install on Friday - I can confirm it is a simple DHCP connection to the ONT, for CGNAT or Static IP

Shame they couldn't have used a shorter fibre cable!
