142 new FTTP locations announced by Openreach (7th Dec 2023)

[link to this post]

So according to this: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/9793-openreach-m... they've announced more exchanges!

Anyone know of any inside info if Harlesden will be getting upgraded in the very imminent future (potential dates/timeframe or anything) to support FTTP? It's the neighbouring Exchange to Perivale that is on that list in the link.

Is there anyone I can e-mail within BT Openreach to expedite for this exchange?

TIA

I don't know the area but it could be that Perivale would be the exchange that servers the area for FTTP - not all exchanges are enabled as they are consolidating exchanges for FTTP.

If there was an email address to expedite exchanges then everyone would be emailing it and they would still have to prioritise based on their business model. Emailing OpenReach is not going to make any difference with the priority of any particular area - and even if your exchanges was "enabled" it doesn't mean for certain they would do your street.

Currently Harlesden is a head-end and also serves Kensal Green, Perivale is also a head-end but only for itself. As to them consolidating further it is anyones guess.

Oh interesting! What do you mean by head-end?

I'll be happy with that. I'd rather my exchange be upgraded rather than nothing at all. It's some type of progress rather than no progress - and maybe having it this way means covering the area is more likely.

Head end is the exchange termination end of the openreach fibre (FTTC or FTTP) . This is where the Communication Providers connect to the openreach FTTx network. Also called a Handover Point.

An exchange "upgrade" is pretty irrelevant. All that is relevant is if OpenReach are installing FTTP in an area - the act of installing to premises will require that any work for the exchange to support it is done. It is the active rollout that is of interest not the exchange.

I think because OR has grouped it by exchange and then cab level and then post code level. people actually think thats how its done, where as its just easy pr to convey something that's complex.

What matters ultimately, is that "can get they get to your nearest copper dp (not always a reliable point to use) and then to your property" nothing else really matters.

We saw another OP who was on an estate where about 8 properties couldn't get fttp due to ducting issues.

Do you have some information regarding the financial viability of that exchange which Openreach could not find out for themselves?

Some random member of the public asking Openreach to prioritise an exchange is not going to make any difference. The roll-out schedule is governed by economics and business priorities. They will upgrade that exchange if/when their accountants, engineers and possibly their marketing department tell them that the time is right to do so wink

Absolutely not. If they were open to expediting there would be thousands, if not tens of thousands of emails sent asking for exchanges and properties to be expedited.

The only expediting I'm aware of was for key workers in pandemic time when they had to work from home and had broadband that wasn't up to the task.

You could of course still email but it won't get you expedited now regardless of circumstances. It'd set a very unwanted precedent.
