CBTs/Splitters on poles - how long?

[link to this post]

Hi

Seems like my old username (jimwillsher) got deleted so I'm under a new profile.

We've waited years for decent internet, and are covered by R100 in Scotland. Over the last 6 months Openreach and their subbies (Circet) have done the civils - ducts along the verges, coils of fibre on poles, we even have a new duct up to the house.

This week Openreach came along and fitted the CBTs to the poles and connected up the fibre coils.

So my question.....based on your experience, how soon are things likely to go green for ordering? Are the CBTs typically the final part of the jigsaw before the property shows as being able to order FTTP? Or is there likely to still be a month or two of paperwork/testing by OR before they say it's ready?

Many thanks!

A month or 2 of testing and maybe fixing of faults in the build.

If it is at the start of a new deployment with new back hauls etc it could be a few months of further rollout / testing before you can order. If there is a problem found it could delay by just a week or equally it could delay by 2 years.

If they are just continuing extending the rollout a bit further "up the street" from my experience once the stuff at the top of pole is connected it *can* be active and ready to order within a week.

Just try not to be checking the availability checker too often as if there is a delay it will drive you mad. It is also worth checking neighbours and properties on different poles just to make sure there isn't a database error stopping you from ordering.

TLDR it depends wink

Looks like we've done well. The CBTs were audited on Friday - ours is now adorned with a purple "DEFECT - Low Wire" sticker - however the OR website went green yesterday for my address and I've been able to place an order. Happy days!

The purple A1024 tag for low wire just means there will be a cherry picker (hoist) required to work at the top of that pole.

Hopefully the premises with the low wire will want a fibre service , and a correct height span can be erected.

One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain.

Depends on the provider I guess; Nexfibre put CBTs on poles in March 2024 in this area and we're still waiting.

With Openreach starting pole replacements and duct clearing in the area I genuinely think they might actually be first now.
