FTTP but only 1Gb available

Trying a few different BB supplier lists and some providers are showing 1700+ available to us.

Ordered from one supplier that showed as available and they came back and said that our connection is only capable of 1Gbps max as thats all thats available?

Spoke to another and they said we can have the 1750.

What's the score with this then?

I would have thought that if one can supply it then they all can, regardless of if they actually offer it?

This is all via OR network.

Are the ISP's you're talking too using their own cable links connected to the OLT?

Not sure i understand?

We have an OR fibre to the ONT in the house.

FYI IDnet says yes, Aquiss says no.

The limiting factor is not the fibre cable between your property and the Openreach exchange where it terminates on equipment known as an OLT (Optical Line Terminal), on the back of those OLTs are cable links from various backhaul providers and dependant on the ISP you pick will determine what cable link is used. If the chosen cable link is over subscribed you won't be able to pick some of the higher speeds, thats why not all ISPs can offer the same top end speeds.

Also if the cable links were only 1gbits then you aren't gonna get the 1.2 or 1.8(1640mbits-ish) offering.

I know this isn't part of your question, but you can thus understand why its just not OR's job to deploy xgs-pon but isp having 10gbits plus cable links

Or the wholesale provider, as not every ISP has cable links in each handover location. There are a lot more ISPs.

See what the max speed is showing along with any Altnets or Wholesale offerings.

Often the wholesale examples such as that of Nexfibre will show Ultrafast 10000 Mbps 10000 Mbps
However, that's more to do with it being an XGS-PON capability rather than the ISP. Neither VM or GiffGaff offer such packages. The max is 2Gbps on VM via Nexfibre.

Community Fibre is accurate and will show Ultrafast 5000 Mbps 5000 Mbps

If you are stuck only on Openreach FTTP even if you get more than 1Gbps, you will not get 1Gbps symmetrical upload due to GPON limitation.

The GPON limitation is also a reason why Openreach cannot offer much higher speeds. If the Altnet or wholesale provider offers XGS-PON only then you will not run into this limitation.

Your motherboard and Network card must also support more than 1Gbps or otherwise these packages will be useless and a waste of money. This also means good quality NVMe M.2 SSD. You also won't get 2Gbps speeds on SATA SSD, keep that in mind!!!

if you are in a type c bduk/project gigabit area, and you can find an isp who sells it - you can indeed get 1gbit up/down.

For short downloads on good hdds you can get 200mbits transfer till the buffer runs out. Anyhooooooo any reasoanble ssd be it stata or pcie based ssd will do
