Helps loads, thanks, I actually live on storforth lane so the one at the top is probably closest, unfortunately don't have BT line at the minute so can't really check.

Presume that is 46?

Will have a nosey on the way home.

Yeah thats the one, but its 45 not 46 (sorry for the typo!)

You can zoom in on the map without putting in a phone number, each post code will have a green cabinet which you can click on for the details. It looks like 45 covers Storforth Lane down as far as just past St Philips Drive (max length around 650m) before moving onto cabinet 74 just before the bridge, and then to 82 after the bridge.

I dont know where the latter 2 are located.

LOL ahh, I am connected to 45, so that's all good.

Been scratching my head thinking where 45 could be since yesterday.

So I am approx 300 metres away, speed indicator says 29Mb is that likely to be about right? (I know it's a fair amount of guess work on line length).

29MB seems to be a conservative estimate at 300m, Ive been estimated 29.9MB at just under 500m. I dont know if things like the gauge, material (copper or aluminium), age and condition of the cables are taken into account. I think virtually all our cables up to the cabinet were replaced about 8 or 9 years ago due to a fault. Ive heard the BT checker gives conservative estimates anyway.

My dilemma at the moment is I have a very reliable, unshaped connection from BE Unlimited, but at the moment BE arent offering FTTC. I can only get 5-6MB on ADSL2+ which is fine for most things but a bit of a pain when trying to do things like stream HD video when other computers in the house are using the connection. 30-40MB would be nice, but Id rather wait for BE to offer it rather than switch providers, providing the wait isnt too long!

Remeasuring it's probably closer to 500m actually.

I currently get 3-4Mb.

Main use is missus on facebook, xbox live and a bit of usenet.

Going from 3-4 to 20-25 would be a massive boost tbh, and I can probably just about live with the 300GB cap, truely unlimited LLU from sky is quite nice for now, but realisitically I probably use under 100GB at the mo, would probably increase a bit if I had the speed mind.

Hi

I live halfway up Storforth lane & have always had huge problems with the internet..I seem to suffer from a lot of RX CRC errors - apparently this is due to my line length & the fact that the main cable running under Storforth lane is Aluminium??!? not copper..

Anyways - Since I moved to AN ISP called Xilo - my line has at least stablised, they also offer the FTTC service so happy days!!

Cant wait for Chesterfield to go Live - goodbye 2.5Mb - hello 30Mb (Hopefully!)

My line is 566m from cab to me, and I get full 40000Kbps sync.

Honestly I don't believe that, I live a little way up St Philips, and get about 4Mb.

My line must surely be longer than yours, as essentially we are fed from the same cab (but you are closer).

Not sure why your line is 2.5Mb

Only repeating what the openreach engineer had to say - that advise / analysis cost me £100.00 + as I logged an engineers call to BT as I wasn't happy the the internet performance - I was told it was within parameters & my issue was due to line length & that aluminium had been used & not copper.. - so they charged me for the call out

Tried all the normal suspects.. various filters, bell wire, 2 routers - including a Draytek 2820N - nothing improved the situation - But at least things should improve when we get the FTTC upgrade!!!
