Can VDSL be fed over aluminium?

I don't fully understand why you would be on an aluminium line, it's mainly done for new houses, my house is 80 years old and I am 100% sure it's copper, obvioulsy my house is fed from the same cabinet.

Do you have your line stats so I can compare?

I'll post my stats on here when i get home form work 2nite - tried different modulations last night (apart from G.DMT - that im using at the min - but didnt improve things).

Im sure my ISP only managed to stablise my line by increasing my SNR margin which I guess effects what rate my line sync's at - so that might be why I dont get the 40,000 sync rate that you get - but still does'nt explain why the line is so unstable & prone to errors

I'm on VDSL and have an aluminium line, there were copper shortages when the estate was built ~40 years ago apparently. 300 meter d-side and 11.3 attenuation according to the engineers tester, sync is 38717/10000 Kbps and throughput is 37.5/8 Mbps.

My router stats are as follows:

     G.DMT SHOWTIME up: 896000 down: 3104000 atten:11 loop:52

I'm halfway up Storforth lane & as you can see sync is not 4000000

Yes, but as with ADSL, it's happier over copper.

No, aluminum cable was used back in the late sixties, early seventies, when the price of copper shot up. OK for speech, but has been playing merry hell with broadband since it's roll out.

BT used it round here for a new cabinet a year or so back.

No - ADSL max

2.5 - 3mb on fibre & i really would be [censored]

Damn I edited that post after counting the zeros again

My Attenuation is 49 (assuming that's your 52 figure) which is surprising as I am further down the road, guessing it must be alu, thinking mine is copper though, not sure.
