Rural areas are defenitly well served in the uk, I know a fair few people abroad outside of towns in other countries using either dialup or sattelite as thats the only choice they have.
the long slow line thing has been very misleading put out as a rural area thing with people like prince charles even backing it when the reality is rural areas are more likely to have to pay more but otherwise are able to get a good service as some urban area in general.
Comparing me to my parents, I have a choice of half a dozen LLU suppliers and cable broadband, the reality is tho no matter which adsl supplier I choose 6mbit will be about the upper limit on good days (making 21CN and LLU adsl2+ not relevant) and cable here is severely oversold performing on average below 6mbit. My parents are BTw only but have a nice short line and 8mbit service. Apparently they dont pay much for it either, my dad says he has the adsl as part of his orange mobile package.
This area big city with 30k+ properties gets under 1% on this race to infinity
