Spoke to Plusnet and they can get us on the FTTC trial for 22.44 a month with 60Gig included and also on a monthly contract.

Is this any good?

If that's with a 10Mb/s upload, it's very good. But ultimately, it's your choice. Only you can decide if the Plusnet offer fullfills your unstated requirements.

At that price, BT is the main competitor.

Requirements include the ability to watch some iPlayer, 4OD etc. Gaming, email browsing and downloads though not P2P.

As stated above my max usage in the last 3 months has been 35Gig, so I get the feeling 60 a month should be enough.

The trouble with the BT packages is that I would have to agree to an 18 month contract and with some of the things my wife and I are planning we many need to be able to get out of a contract easily and a rolling monthly contract would suit perfectly.

I doubt if the Plusnet contract will be monthly, at least for the proper packages when they arrive. Is the trial monthly?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk
My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - IDNet Home Starter Fibre.

PlusNet don't go out of their way to tell you what the speed of the uplink is. However, all the PlusNet triallists so far seem to report uplink speeds of 10 Mbit/s. But, as no-one can see the actual sync speeds, you have to infer this from reports of speed-tester results - where upload speeds are generally around 8Mbps (and downstream in the mid-30s).

So, so long as you make use of that uplink speed, then I think its a reasonable price.

As for the contract terms... Bob Pullen reported here that they aren't imposing any annual contracts as yet. Whether this stays in place once the real packages arrive is anyone's guess...

Don't forget that 60GB is a peak-hour limit.

We've topped out at around 30GB for the last few months - but that's the total usage. Peak hours have been around 13GB, but that's PlusNet's *old* peak hours of 16:00-00:00. The newer packages extend the peak hours from 8AM-Midnight.
