But realistically...who, being sensible, is going to take a 40GB limit? Someone who never downloads as much as 40GB, perhaps?
Which, realistically, is most people.

Actually ive always disagreed with caps, and originally was reluctant to take a cap (30gb with adsl24, 60gb with aquiss), however on thinking about it, most downloading is done nights/weekends anyway, and 60gb will be enough for the odd time during the day when i think oooh i need to download that!
So looks like aquiss will be getting my money!

I've always thought that usage allowances (or caps if you prefer) are the fair solution - don't mess with the IP packets, no traffic management, but allow only so many gigabytes per month.
If VM did this, then likely be a customer, but with their existing stupid scheme I won't touch them - as I have a requirement occasionally to download a lot of data from public sites; and I wouldn't want to be given a penalty for doing so.

Anyone know how long it will take for my mac code to come from o2?
Dont see why they cant just give it over the phone like a normal ISP!

I got my O2 MAC by both text and email within 4 hours of request.

That means most of the time you are paying for an fixed allowance that you are unlikely to use. If "unlimited" were used sensibly by all, then all could do as you require, cheaper than the higher fixed allowance packages now.
Low allowance packages, say below 10GB/pm, could still be cheaper still, as even most of these would be under-utilised.

I don't think unlimited is sustainable as we've all seen - I guess for BE and O2's older products they take a gamble on the number of people >10mbps, compared to the industry averages. Maybe this is why they've not made any decision on FTTC yet.
Yes, many people will pay for more usage than they need; just look at the number of iPhone contracts with 500mins per month for £40/£45 that got taken out. In my 18months with O2 I used my 300mins only once, mostly I was using less than 60 mins a month. Yet I was paying for that ability. So I've jumped to a cheaper (non O2) provider on a SIM only with 100mins for £10/m.
But if mobile phones were the same as internet in the UK then we'd have calls that got interrupted for advertising. "low quality" speech calls at peak hours being sold as a necessity etc.
Others have posted long before, and I see that *usable* internet needs to be in the £20-£25/month, anything below that price has restrictions. I have no problems with these varying products - I get annoyed with providers (like VM) who _only_ have the restricted products in their portfolio.

Aquiss, can you just confirm, i have ordered today and there was no mention of install dates (there was an estimated go live on the email, but the email mentioned ADSL and not one mention of FTTC - might wanna look at that lol)
When i will know what the install date will be?
Thanks

Evening Anonymous,
As I am not sure who you are as we have nearly 20 FTTC orders today, it maybe best to reply to one of our emails in order that one of the team can address concerns.
However, contact will be made with all customers as we do a full consultation to make sure all aspects are understood to your needs, along with obtaining times and dates from you to when it's best for an install to take place.
