Yeah, the underline makes it look too busy to work anything out smile

I agree it can be hard to scan the lines...trying to figure a way to make it easier.

we can lock the titles to facilitate scrolling, I'll have a go..............

Who has added the cell borders under each product? To me, that makes it look amateurish - compiled by someone with no expertise - something which you have.

Maybe use Cell borders to separate each provider but not the individual products and if you do, then some (not all) right/left borders would improve the aesthetics.

What underlining? All I see is the underline of ISP links in column 1?

And (yarwell) what has underlining got to do with anything I suggested that was in fact not implemented anyway?

I'm testing a version without them as it kills my eyesite (astigmatism)

it flowed from your improvement suggestions, I didn't mean to imply you suggested it but it looked good when I last saw it and it didn't this morning so I replied to the first post.

Much better ...

I did email Orly and offer to improve the looks - much the same as you have done. Try putting a light grey border between ISP and then reduce the ISP name to one occurrence

Also, you basic year 1 cost formula needs a conditional statement to add 0 if there is text.

=(c23*12)+d23+(IF(ISNUMBER(e23),e23,0))

Alternative Matrix layout comments please

[re: orly] [link to this post]

I set the rows and columns with titles as fixed, so the content scrolls, also tweaked the "hardware" column. There's the odd artistic faux pas to fit with Google's titling and cell grouping methods.

It's in a different test sheet here - comments please.

I'll try to find a way to jump to the business section later today. An alternative would be a separate tab on the spreadsheet keeping the two separate. I probably favour the latter as it would make ex-VAT pricing (more typical for business) clearer if we used that. Thoughts ?

Ah, that does look better. I see what was meant about the borders, but I'm so used to tables with them. (If that was also what was meant by "underlining").

The locking of the headings works well as it makes it easy to scroll to the line of prime interest.

If you go that way the "E & O E" would now be better in the "Comparison of" area. It's a bit out on a limb where it is.

thanks for catching me breaking the cost formula with text !

I don't like the row breaks as it makes editing a pain, but I may be a suppressed minority on that .
