Re: Haslington Exchange update :-(

I work for a business in High Street in Crewe; everywhere I have checked comes back with a negative for FTTC availability/roll-out yet we are pretty much in the town centre and there is a recently installed FTTC Cabinet on the corner of Brook Street/Edleston Road which is a stones throw away - 50 meters maybe. Does anyone know if we will be able to get FTTC here - ideally through Zen but at a push BT?

Thanks,

I had a listen to my cab last night and finally it has power smile I'm guessing that is what the nearby hole was dug for last week.

I shall probably go with BT Infinity, as it is the cheapest option. I had initially considered Aquiss but can't really justify the cost (around double what I currently pay for Be*). I am sure that Aquiss' c/s is far superior to that of BT, I will just have to hope nothing goes wrong.

I think that the cab probably had power to it sometime last week as I saw the hole as I was coming home from work (prob last Tuesday) but I was off ill from Wednesday so not sure exactly when.

The BT Wholesale checker is still showing June at the moment. Hope it changes soon.

I have a question, I do not have the modern split master socket and it is in a stupid place (right up against the right hand side of the lounge window frame) will the installer fit a new modern master socket? preferably on the wall below the window. To do it properly would need a small junction box and a bit more cable.

Not sure if this is aimed at myself?

BT will change the wallsocket to a new one as part of of the install. We are currently offering the FTTC extension kit free with our installs at Aquiss (saves around £50) so any extra wiring will be covered, without too much cost to yourself.

Thanks Martin, my master socket is actually fastened to the windowsill rather than the wall hence my saying it is in a stupid place. The installers who fitted my double glazing had to cut their trim panels to avoid it, as it is right up against the window frame.

I still have somewhat of a dilemma in choosing, my wallet says BT but I am reluctant to do this as I have been with them in the past and know what their c/s is like. Also the fact that a couple of people in these forums have had no installers turn up on the day they were given and BT seem to have no idea why.
