The max sync reported by the engineer for me was 46.667 Mbps but the actual sync capped by the modem was 39.996 Mbps. The tech had seen quite a few that had a potential to sync at well over 40 but none had done so

38717 is the IP Profile . Just been switched to Orange WBC and am now able to run BT Speedtester for 1st time. It reports my: IP Profile for your line is - 13519 Kbps which doesn't accord with your table. Explain?
1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 19 Meg Tweaked / 16 Meg Untweaked LLU BB

I have had a similar experience with some of my recent router syncs.
It all seemed to have started after my exchange was upgraded to WBC.
Following are from recent router re-syncs.
14th April 2011
Download speed achieved during the test was - 7631 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8410 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1099 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7419 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 14.29:21.5:64.21 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
17th April 2011
Download speed achieved during the test was - 7386 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8324 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1113 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7344 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 14.45:18.2:67.35 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
This all started to happen after 11-Apr-11. Before that time I was being allocated
a profile of 7150, even when my sync speed exceeded 8000Mbps.
I was originally going to post this up myself as a separate thread, but seeing
you raised the point.. I will be interested to see whta the explanation might be.
Could this be a software upgrade at the exchange or an issue with speedtester ?

Soemwhere within the WBC system there is a total screwup re the IP Profile that gets reported to the speed tester. A while ago we were seeing many, then for a few months it seemed to be cured. I've seen two or three bad ones again in the last couple of days.
The IP Profile can be higher than the connection speed, the download speed can be higher still, etc., etc.
Hopeless  .

The IP Profile can be higher than the connection speed, the download speed can be higher still, etc., etc. In my case, all these figures are consistent: Download speed achieved during the test was - 12456 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :15323 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 888 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 13519 Kbps Just that the IP Profile is not a multiple of 1000 Kbps.
1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 19 Meg Tweaked / 16 Meg Untweaked LLU BB

Just that the IP Profile is not a multiple of 1000 Kbps. I've never had one that was... why did you think it should be?

why did you think it should be? From Roberto's Table; I was referring to the top half only.
1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 19 Meg Tweaked / 16 Meg Untweaked LLU BB

From Roberto's Table; I was referring to the top half only. Ah, right... I don't think those values are valid for FTTC anyway, from the profiles I've had it seems to be able to use much smaller increments than any form of ADSL.
But I'm prepared to be corrected on that

My table is correct for BT Wholesale profiles, i.e. ADSL Max, IPSC and BT Wholesale ADSL2/2+. XRaySpex is on WBC ADSL2+.
The profiling system on FTTC is Openreach and totally different. You are probably the person with the widest range of figures available, , but unfortunately we have no sync figures to correspond to anything.

You can see that the increments go down to at least 3Kbps
