Mine has just had the electric power cables laid to the new cabinet, with an estimated service date of 30th Sept. With the power just gone in , is this date likely to be brought forward
I doubt it, but the dates change oddly. The best checker I know of is the BT Wholesale one.

Possibly - but FTTC is a lot more than just the cab.. A lot of them have stood humming with no go live due to exchange issues.. One can always hope.. laugh

Well according to the wholesale checker it's still the 30th...fingers crossed

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th June 2011. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 35.7Mbps and upstream line speed of 7.8Mbps.

When someone gets connected to FTTC they jumper-connect a pair from the FTTC one to the existing copper to the premises.

So what happens if an area is listed to get FTTP? Do they run fibre as far as the poles, the dropwire or right into the premises / master socket?

I will write out 1000 times "I must use the site search before asking questions"

Thanks for the pointer anyway. That makes sense - the postcode involved has just a dozen houses all served from a single pole which is itself only about 50m from the old cab, so they could presumably deliver overground from the pole.

Having said that, and bragging rights aside, I'm sure an FTTC connection will more than suffice, at least for a few years, and be cheaper. Being so close to the cab we will probably get close to full whack out of FTTC.

Which in reality means 40/10Mbps connection, 35-37Mbps actual download depending on provider, and time of day with some like Infinity, over 8Mbps up.

Nearer the time the date can vary back and forth, and the week before it goes live quite possibly lose all mention of FTTC. Losing all mention is usually a good sign, but occasionally means that cabinet has been put back to another phase for some reason.
