Hi,

Thanks all!

Are those that have had it installed all happy with it?

No reliability or speed problems from BT?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi,

I have had infinity installed for around 6 weeks now. I have had a rock steady connection with a constant 36-37Mbps throughput with an upload around 6-7Mbps as tested via BT Speed Tester. I find the TBB tester gives me a very poor upload speed.

Ok so far here, I don't use torrents so don't care about the fact that they are throttled in peak time but do use newsgroups which aren't. 4 threads usually max my connection (4.6MB/sec).

I am around 110m from the cab (straight line) but probably around 200m cable length (following the probable route). The other possible route would be around 700m but the BT engineer thought that it followed the shorter route. I get the full 40/10.

Hmmm.

Mine is 550m of 15 year-old stuff.

I could originally sync at 40/10, but got 4% packet loss. DLM has added interleaving (which killed the packet loss), but also (and later) dropped the sync to around 36/10 (profile of 34800ish).

I wonder if I need someone to look at it. I know they had some problems with the neighbour's.

So for 6 months it's been telling you FTTC is available on your line even though the cabinet didn't even exist?

Don't think so.

You said:

"Numbers won't appear on the checkers until a while after all work has seemingly been completed."

You're wrong.

I have been getting an estimated line speed for months before our cab was installed as well, BTW doesn't seem to even have a consistant approach on how they present data.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules when it comes to when these things appear. My exchange was originally set to be enabled in Dec 2011 before being bumped up to Sep 2011 and is now showing as Jun 2011. They installed the new cabs a while ago and the the line checker is still telling me that there are no plans to roll it out in the next six months! crazy

How can it say FTTC is a) available and b) give the estimated speed when the infrastructure doesn't even exist yet. Basically, bugs aside, it won't and shouldn't say you can have it until you really can have it.

The logical way for it to work is how I've generally seen it working. Kit goes in, checker changes to say you can have it. Happened last year for my line. In my old street not far from where I live the cabinets only recently went in and now my mates mum (who still lives there) has had the result for her number change to show availability.

Simply doesn't make sense to say its up and running - go ahead and order when it's clearly false. Quelle surprise when you go to the ISP and they tell you you've wasted your time.

It uses postcode & existing cabinet location information.

Before:

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2011. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 27.5Mbps and upstream line speed of 5.8Mbps.

After:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 28.2Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.6Mbps.
