Re: FTTC Cabinet Question

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

The fact it's made it onto Google Street View hints that it's been there a while.
Any idea when the Google wagon mapped Dunblane?
I notice there's a construction site just down the road (opposite Chapel Court).
Doing a bit of Googling shows Stewart Milne Homes still have homes for sale in this development, so I'd say the Google Street View images can't be much more than a year old.
Even so, it seems the cabinet has been there far too much in advance of the FTTC rollout in Dunblane.

I wonder, especially as you say there's very little inside, if it's just a regular cabinet which BT have fitted (maybe in preparation for FTTC).
It's got no vent holes in the front, just what looks like a couple of tiny ones on the right side.
Really does look like a standard cabinet (which may explain why there wasn't much in it - equipment wise, anyway).

In a street neer us they installed one of those small cabinets due to a failure in the cable. They clearly shortened the cable exchange side so the new box is about 20m up the road from the old one, then they replaced the cable from that box to one about 500m down the road where there is a big cabinet with the FTTC gear in it. So it would seem in this case the new small cabinet is nothing more than a new place to join the main cable.

I would tend to agree. It has been there for a while. I'm not sure if this is significant but the box has now got "PCP 6" written on it, just since the OR van was there. I have seen this mentioned with regard to FTTC but have not really been following it.

Just as a side note, I see from samknows that the Dunblane (ESDUN) exchange apparently has FTTC available "in some areas". Hmm, now, to find out if it's in my area smile

[edit] stuck my number into samknows and it says I can get BT FTTC!! Do I believe it or not??

I wouldn't pay too much attention to Samknows. It says the same for our exchange but to the best of my knowledge there's not a single cabinet which has been enabled frown

If you're still with Talk-Talk I think their FTTC offering is branding as "Fibre Obtic Boost" and costs £10 on top of your current package.
BT's is £28 plus line rental for "unlimited" (well; unlimited until you hit the limit - so limited then) but is on an 18 month contract (24 months if you also take BT vision).

Found something interesting on another thread
The smaller cabinets appear to be made by a different suppier. see http://www.planning4bradford.com/online-applications...
This is an ECI 128 port cab rather than the standard large Huawei 288 port cabinet, Looks slimmer as well. So two different suppliers, may also mean two different routers?
