I don't think the new 2700 has a built in VDSL modem so its got an ADSL modem built in, plus an ethernet WAN port, to connect your Openreach modem to. So basically it's no different to any wireless router for VDSL purposes!

On thinking about it as you still need to have the bto modem connected the 2700 will not act the same way as it does with ADSL on a long line so it probably would not benefit me

I thought you were suggesting that BT had 2wire with VDSL front end!

However, there are two of them, the 3800HGV and i3802V that supposedly supports VDSL - I wonder if I can get hold of one of those on my next trip to Southern California?

Zarjaz's reply had me intrigued too ...

Got to the bottom of it and even though the Pace site also says Fibre (VDSL) what it means is that there is a WAN input that would be fed from a Fibre/VDSL modem.

Hi folks,

Finally got connected. It took a huge push from ADSL24 (James) to get BT into connecting me today and thankyou smile

Unfortunately the engineer was unable to give me distance on the D side but by road it is 1.3 miles by his sat nav and not 1.1 as I had measured it. He was very surprised I got connected at all by the time he had driven down the road to my house! The BTO modem is a newer one however he tells me there are newer ones again that he has ordered.

I have connected according to the BT Speedtester at 16Mb down and 1Mb up. At the minute because it was a sub 15Mb order the upload is stuck on a 2Mb profile until that is changed. This is so fast compared to my previous1Mb line its fantastic. Ping is around 36ms using the Manchester server via Speedtest.net.

Again a big thankyou to ADSL24 who have been on the ball from last year when I raised questions regarding the fibre. Their support is outstanding and local ie no foreign call centres which I like many others despise.

One very happy surfer smile
