Idiot bank. Fancy telling me the direct debit payment (from the BT instruction) was debited on 23rd August, without telling me the debited amount was zero! Why even bother showing the date on the list of direct debits.
Stupidly; I assume that because BT had taken a payment, that it would actually be £28.
It didn't even occur to me my bank would bother advising me a payment has been taken, when the amount of the payment was zero - DOH!

Turns out 'Dave' from Mumbai was correct (and BT haven't taken a payment yet).

Sounds like BT tried to take zero to ensure the DD was set up.

That would fit the chain of events.
