My PCP has been re-shelled for over a month now and the dates on the bt adsl checker has been pushed back around 5 times now, and currently says its due on 31st December. Wonder why its taking them so long to get the fttc installed crazy

Mine was re-shelled in January. Original FTTC date on the checker was July 2010 (last year!); and then moved to March 2011, then July 2011, then Sept 2011, now its Dec 2011.

I'd say there is no connection.

Still waiting frown

Other cabs (PCP's) in the same main road (either end, mine is in the middle) have their FTTC cabs. Neither of those was re-shelled before.

Makes me wonder how the OR engineer will locate my pair in that mess?

They are numbered.
Also, since 9 years back they found a different pair to improve a noisy line, I hope their records are up to date, since there is a posibility that I may be on the other cabinet which serves my postcode...

The spare pair will have been through the same cab. E-side records are usually gospel, D-sides .... If it is a real problem, you just tone from the NTE.

Well, he found my pair. Interestingly not in the cabinet which a local OR engineer thought they would be in.

Two OR engineers attended, one a recent ex-forces guy and his supervisor. They appreciated the tea/coffee/fresh orange juice and jaffa cakes! They were happy to show me the sync rates, 1999 and 35291 and he screwed the EchoLife to the near vertical plywood. Interestingly(?) the first filtered faceplate he opened was a dud, one of the pins on the plug was damaged.

Although got a EchoLife 2B, seems there is a later version 3B(?) as well.

All I have to do now is persuade my Linksys PAP2T-UK and Billion 7800n combination to talk to DrayTel, my VoIP supplier. (DrayTel suggest I change a Firewall setting in the Openreach modem (ooops!) admittedly the EchoLife box it has a built in Firewall. Andrews and Arnold think there may be a NAT issue and they have a fix for that; meanwhile Google tells me there may be a Billion 7800n issue, ah well happy days.... Strangely, I can make VoIP calls but incoming calls are picked up at DrayTel as voicemail. Generally, I only use VoIP to receive and use my BT line for outgoing calls which are inclusive.

Cheers!

Both cabinets are about 500 metres away minimum, and likely not too much more. However the underground cable between cabinet and pole is, I was told a few yeras back, aluminium. In 2000 (when house owned by my mother-in-law) the best dial up speed here was just under 20k with the exchange about 1865 metres, whereas same laptop in our house a few miles away on another exchage could give me 50k despite being about three times the house/exchange distance. So guess I'm luck to get what I have.

Cheers!
