How long have you got left on your contract? Next time don't choose Plusnet its rubish if you locked into a contract and the provider doesn't wanna sort your problem!

I have written a complaint about being without broadband for 2 days etc and that not 1 person actually said sorry for the mess up, the OR engineer passed the blame to lol!

I only had FTTC installed in June with Plusnet's 18 month contract.

I have been with Plusnet & their previous companies, Force 9 & Free-Online for years.
Any other previous issues were dealt with quickly, efficiently & with my complete satisfaction.

I am convinced it is just the lack of overall knowledge of the "new" FTTC technology that is holding matters back.
e.g. after many, many hours of searching I have still not been able to find an "official" speed v distance estimate graph/chart for FTTC that starts off at 40Mb & there is currently so much contradictory advice given by ISPs & BT engineers.

I know the problems that you can have with BT so when moving having VM its 1 of the things I look for! I live in Cardiff and most of the homes seem to get VM. The VM cable goes rite past my folks house but they never cabled any of the area. I always though it was odd. The cable was put down in the 90's mind maybe they had plans but run out of money!

I will check out speeds @ my folks house on Monday and have a ago and unlocking the OR modem and get the stats from it!

Same here with initial high(er) speed (32 Mbps), but my speed reduction happened 3 months later (initially my IP profile was down to 21 Mbps now sits at 26 Mbps, Plusnet have set me at 24 Mbps, my speed tests come in at about 22 Mbps).

I also got the "your estimate was blah, so be happy that you are getting twice that" response when I tried to get the speed reduction looked at.

I suppose lots of factors could be at play with this... 1. The weather???, 2. Street lights???, 3. More and more users coming on to FTTC (cross-talk)???

If you do get the relevant stats (Freely downloaded Putty terminal program appears to be the best one to use), but are struggling or don't want to install all the other graphing software on someone else's PC, just as a one-off, you could PM me with your email address & I could generate the graphs for you.

Unlocking the BT modem is unofficial, & has not been approved by BT.
You could read more about it here:-

Hmmm,

Seems to be a bit of a pattern developing here.

Are you sure it is Plusnet that set your profile at 24Mb?
They told me that ALL their FTTC customers' profiles are ALWAYS set at 40Mb, but shown as 37Mb in the High Speed connection page.

I KNOW for a fact that BT reset my profile to 24Mb or 25Mb once over as they said my connection could never NEVER have achieved more than 30Mb.
This was despite them speaking directly to the visiting engineer who was quoting some of my high speed test results over the phone to them.

Another factor could be that an incompetent BT engineer has ruined your connection like one did with mine.

It may just be coincidence, but 24Mb is the max speed for ADSL2+.
It would not surprise me in the slightest if we found out that BT have simply reset our speeds for the wrong broadband mode.

Yup, Member Center / Connection Settings / High-speed Broadband currently shows my current line speed at 24 Mb.

When I first got the speed drop, at the beginning of September, my BT IP Profile dropped to 21 Mbps, Plusnet set my line speed to 19 Mb. Then when I raised a ticket, they put me back to 37 Mb, sometime after my IP Profile increased up to 26530. In the last couple of days I've noticed that my Plusnet line speed is now at 24 (think it has happened in the last week, it is something I regularly check but dont keep a log of when and what it was).

I cant belive it, just had a call of my old man saying broadband not working! Is it normal to stop working in the 10days? Im sure I read it could stop intermitantly!

I sooo dont wanna have to call the customer services again! I might as well put them on speed dial! This is such a hassle!
