I also have my Modem Lan2 port plugged in to an adjacent switch (Router ports all in use). I did however change the Modems Lan2 port IP to 192.168.1.1 as my router is 192.168.1.1

Nice one, has it's use I guess. Not sure what my routers are on but must be something different.

No more messing around doing BT speedtests to get the information.

the modem is on 192.168.1.1 and your router as well, must work I guess or did I understand wrong,

Nice to see what happens when it is speeded up, will get more than the 30mbs I hope as it did do more in summer but slowed up and now stuck at 7 less than it once did. see what next year brings when upto 80.

Only 400m line as the blokes box of tricks said when testing the line last saturday

No, that would not work, two devices on the same network cannot have the same IP. I changed the modems LAN IP to 192.168.1.2 (you can change it from the web interface).

Hi Daniel,

The gradual drop in bandwidth that you have experienced could be due to crosstalk from other xDSL pairs that share the same cable bundle as yours.

The full line statistics output from the xdslcmd tool in the Huawei firmware (which you can only access through telnet or ssh) should indicate whether that is the case.

As more subscribers sign up to FTTC, the issues of crosstalk can only worsen. The noise-limiting factor from crosstalk is the single greatest weakness of xDSL, and the higher frequencies used in VDSL2 are particularly susceptible to inductance noise.

In his excellent MSc thesis on xDSL loop qualification [1], Matthias Ernelli discusses pair twisting used in a cable bundle and how it can mitigate the inter-pair electromagnetic coupling (crosstalk). Cable Twisting is a science in itself!

Yaakov Stein, the chief scientist at RAD Data Comms has published a very informative set of slides to accompany his short course of lectures "An Introduction to xDSL". The issue of crosstalk is illustrated very clearly. [2]

Cheers,
A

Put the unlocked SP10 firmware on to my 2B modem today, no issues encountered what so ever.

Changed IP from 192.168.1.1 to an address in my 192.168.0.0/24 subnet

Observations so far;

1. I'm on profile 17a
2. Turn off QoS makes no difference to download speed tests, upload showed a 150kbps improvement
3. My max download speed is less than what I was getting for the first 3 months I was connected (profile of 32mbps, speed tests at 30mbps), perhaps cross talk?
4. If Plusnet increase upload speed I'm in for a nice wee bump up
5. The length of my line tells me I'd be silly in future to pay for an 80/20 product as I would not see any difference (line length is 950 metres, all underground copper)

Hello

All you stuff is good and did it ok after working out the telnet command of open before the modem address. Easy when worked out that took a bit of messing around.

nice to get into it.

Did have the guys come and repare the duff phone line that every now and then crackles when talking to someone. Next door garden patio lifted up to get to the buried junction box (clever then to hide under stuff, not), they did and still not happy so drop wire from grey box on the wall up to house in the roof wire was replaced. All ok now so guess it was that. Maybe not then and more people being added.

Was good when I had not 2 weeks of it starting up here and being turned on in Abingdon. One of the first I guess months ago, might get a bit more when it goes over to the better speed, will will see. Like the links, something to read later.

Thank you.

Ok just unlocked my modem and loads of stuff on there! I take it nobody has altered anything too much for fear of causing issues?? Anyway here are my stats

Now unless they do some more jiggery pokery with frequencies looking at the stats there would be no point in going for 80/20 and paying for it! My max would seem not a hell of alot more than what I'm on now.

I have QOS turned off and that gets around another 1 Mbps Upload on speed tests. I have also connected port2 to my network, after changing the modem LAN IP so that it does not clash with my router.
