It confuses a lot of people at first. It's actually far superior in my opinion to the majority of simple flat "un-chained" ones.

In this case I was asking WWWombat. If you look in the header of the post it says "Re: WWWombat", and that is a link to take you to the post I have replied to. Next to it is "link to this post", which if you right-click and copy you can include in a different post to refer people back to the one you are reading.

Have you looked in the My Home page? Useful facilities at the bottom of that to alter how the forum appears to you.
