they did with ADSL broadband, but then they was using their own equipment so it was cheaper for them, with Fibre they will be using BT equipment so paying BT. So they need to try and get people to use their TV service to get some more money.

It will use sky's network from the exchange, so it shouldn't have the same issues as Sky Connect.

Sky LLU ADSL2+:
BT Openreach copper from home to exchange. Sky network thereafter.

Sky FTTC:
BT Openreach copper/fibre from home to exchange. Sky network thereafter.

It should be very good.

So if Sky FTTC is indeed using Sky equipment from the exchange presumably that means you will only be able to get Sky FTTC if Sky have a presence at your exchange (which they don't at my exchange). Or will we see two levels of service emerging again - fibre with BT equipment or fibre with a provider with equipment at BT exchanges. So again we end up with another sort of broadband divide with very different pricing no doubt.

I don't think that sky will have specific equipment in the exchange, rather from the exchange the data is then handed over to either BT Wholesale (for example BT Retail custmoer) or to Sky, for their customers.

So yeah, sky will have their own equipment at the exchange.


The question is whether sky will offer fibre connect over BT Wholesale, or if the prerequisite for a sky fibre service is that their llu equipment is also present.
