Looks like it may indeed be a restriction at Rapidsahre.

well i had 1.6mb from a single stream my max upload ts 1.7mbit if you use the web page to upload they are both slower and unreliable,

Have you tried using a premium acc?

I've been using rapidshare on and off for years. Early last year I got 1MB/s via their web page. When I started using RS again in january uploads via their web page ran at 300KB/s via the website and 600KB/s via the RSManager. Recently that has dropped to 70KB/s on their website and 300KB/s using the RSManager.

I have always used a premium account and rapidshare insist they do not limit the upload.

Infinity and Zen users seem to get poor speeds, while Anonymous has posted better speeds on BE. So if rapidshare are limiting speed it is not applied to everyone.

I'd still like to see more tests from other ISP's, if you have a spare few minuites I'd appreciate it.

I wonder if it'd be worth pointing rapidshare support to this thread.

I dont get why people use rapidshare type sites unless its for copyrighted content.

Major isps give free webspace and even paid web space is dirt cheap, cheaper than rapidshare as well with no throttles, captchas etc.

Be /o2 don't and i don't think sky does, not sure about bt but i would say doubtful on inclusive web space, some of the resellers offer a small amount which is shared space with e-mails should you use the space for e-mails , But for making a local file available to a remote user without (remote session ) cyberlockers are a good solution , if not copyrighted then i would use Mediafire

Rapidshare gives me unlimited storage/bandwidth and doubles as an online backup site and a filesharing site. All for less than £5/PM.

My ISP does provide a small amount of online space, which isn't enough and the files can't be shared.

Webhosting is cheap yes, I actually have my own VPS, but your not allowed to store personal files, only those which are used for your website.

Pirate or not, rapidshare would be the ideal solution for me if the upload speed wasn't so pitiful.

Just tried mediafire, got 300KB/s on their site and 100KB/s using there windows App.

I can get full speed to sendspace so it can't be a setup issue on my side.

Is it possible it's the routing to the slow sites that's really at fault here??

That personal file limitation would be unique to your VPS provider, as that is something I have never come across before.

Typically limitations just require it to be legal content.

£5 month is way above what you could get webspace for. I think you a victim of the rapidshare ripoff.

I am eg. hosting speedtouch firmware files and allowed kitz to link to it on her adsl forum site, I also have decided to host android firmwares after on xda developers (where they love using megaupload etc.) lost all their files when those sites started clamping down. I receieved many personal thanks from people as they no longer have to navigate pages asking them to pay to download free content, captchas etc. Just a simple direct download link.
