The data extension is also yours, and remains so should you cease FTTC service, but of course the modem has to be returned.
Thanks smile.

Only, what if it is used to move the master? That being the demarcation point.

The modem has to be returned? You're probably right, but I don't think I've seen it in either the IDNet or Plusnet T & Cs.

Well if the data extension is used to move the master, then it is no longer extension wiring, being on the wrong side of the demarcation . The modem is the property of Openreach, so I suppose they will contact the ISP for it back, and they would contact you.

Errrm? I think you are wrong there.

I think I could well be now, I was going by information that was posted in the guides on Clarity.it website (as well as others), but he seems to have altered the guide very recently, in fact it states rewrite in progress 6-03-2012.

He used to say it was very unlikely BT would pick up that anyone had altered a BT installed extension, so perhaps thats why it is now simply the NTE5 and any wiring before it. IE the demarcation point.

But what's the problem in keeping the installation as done by the engineer? He won't wreck your existing wiring.
Actually he did wreck mine. With my old BT ADSL faceplate, the filtered extension sockets around the house worked fine. Since the openreach man changed it for a new FTTC faceplate, phones plugged into the extension sockets don't ring. They work fine otherwise, but don't ring.

The engineer messed up then. Or the faceplate is faulty. Raise a ticket. House visit though frown.

But if it was a while ago, Openreach may not believe you.

I suspect he/she left the ring wire off when refitting the customer connection plate to fit the new VSDL filter faceplate.

Long/Short-term fix.

Either check what systemx suggests and sort it out if you feel competent, or try using a dangly filter in a socket where the phones don't ring. That's if you need them to.

Thanks. I noticed he didn't replace the rear part of the NTE5, just fitted the new faceplate onto my old NTE5 with BT piper logo if that makes any difference. He left an openreach branded NTE5 backplate behind in the packet.

I recently rewired my brothers house, put a new filtered face plate on the NTE5, cat5e to the modem/phone socket and just used the two wires for the phone, I deliberately left out the ringer wire as that's what I believe the advice is these days. His new phone rings but the old phone didn't so he just bought another £6 phone from Argos, problem solved without puting the ringer wire back in which can cause problems with the ADSL apparently.

PS. I've never used the ringer wire in my house, and the phone is OK - Dect Cordless, think it just affects old phones.

Ring wire is not used in most of the world, hence most phones don't use it.

If you have a filtered faceplate, then no problem having it connected on any filtered extensions.
