FTTP - How far from exchange?

How long can an FTTP fibre be before an amplifier or repeater is needed?

Are joints allowed?

Does FTTP use street cabinets like POTs or FTTC?

Single mode fibre will be 60km+

How does it compare with copper - price wise?

They way BT are deploying fibre would mean there would be joints at the pcp. I'm not sure on price but the price of copper has gone up a lot and I can't see that trend being reversed.

Joints aren't a problem with fibre in the same way as they are in copper cables.

Fibre is a bit cheaper than copper per metre, depending how you cost protective / supporting tubes and the like. It's peanuts compared to the cost of digging a hole to put it in, less than £1/metre.

FTTP has the potential to reduce the number of phone exchanges by an order of magnitude, if not two.

You only need single mode (one wavelength) and the kit at the ends is cheaper too if you go that way.
