Yep, this is what we tell all our customers to do if they have not got round to using a new router or changing their settings.

Is it just a matter of turning off DHCP on the router or is it more involved? Or do you double-NAT?

Turn DHCP off on the router and make sure it's not listening on the same IP as the Openreach modem (192.168.1.1 or whatever you set it to).

Plug the modem in to one of the LAN ports on the existing router you are using. Then, any WiFi or LAN connections should just go through the router to the modem and pick up the correct DHCP address and DNS etc.

In other words you are just using the router as a switch.

hello there, i was hoping for abit of help... i have unlocked the Huawei HG612 and i want the same setup as it is apart from i want to setup lan2 to work with my pc for the net... lan1 will be used for the hh3 for wireless.. lan2 for pc ... also easy excess to the web inference

Give the Huawei a suitable fixed IP address within your normal DHCP range.

Leave the existing LAN1 to HH3 WAN port in place. Connect LAN 2 to a LAN port on the HH3.

Your PC will then access the Web across the normal route, wireless will work, and then if you want to access the modem, just use the defined IP address.

could u explain in more detail please.. am a novice...

If you cannot understand that information, then I doubt if you should really be playing around and unlocking modem and accessing the devices.

No harm in trying to learn... with the obvious recommendation that existing settings are noted down before being modified!
