BT Upgrade announcement

I see on the front page, that BT are increasing speed free of charge for people signing up from tomorrow.

If I ordered yesterday, but I don't have the engineer visit/go live until 17th April, am I likely to be offered this, or have I missed the party by 2 days?

Is it likely they would change my package if I asked after i signed up?

A change of package will be possible if they put you on the older product speeds, would extend contract

I've agreed to an 18 month contract when I signed up yesterday. Do you think they would expect me to ign up for longer, or would they just keep me at 18 months?

If you have to use the form to get higher speeds, which is unlikely anyway imo, you have to agree to a new contract of the same length as your existing contract, starting on the day you get the upgrade.

So if you're in an 18-month contract tomorrow and request the upgrade, you will start a new 18-month contract.

I was just hoping I hadn't missed the faster speeds altogether by sining up a couple of days too early.

I would suggest letting the order simply progress as it is, and only try upgrading once it is up and running.

Order changes at this stage are what often cause system issues, i.e. people press wrong button or system was not tested for this combo

The upload increase from 1mb to 10mb is most important for me as opposed to the download increase.

10mb is a great increase. 20 would be amazing, but I'm not really in a rush.

Don't forget they are 'up to' speeds and you almost certainly won't get the full amounts. For instance on my line the modem shows a max upload of 7.5 so I won't get higher than that upload on the 80/20 variants.

On ADSL2 at the moment I get 23/24mb down and 1/1.3 up, so I'm hoping i'll be towards the top end of the available speeds.

ADSL2 and FTTC speeds are totally unrelated, ADSL2 relies on the exchange line lengths and FTTC the lengths to the cabinet. You need to know what condition the cable is from cabinet to home and that distance too. Check the BT ADSL checker and it will tell you, it's now pretty accurate.
