Typical speeds?

My connection went live on Monday. I didn't get to see the engineer's figures but he said I was syncd at 40/10 and I doubt there's more than 500m of cable between me and the cabinet. Although the downstream looks good - 36Mb/s - the upstream seems a bit poor at 7Mb/s.

I realise there's going to be the usual overhead but the downstream overhead appears to be only 10% (which is lower than I'd expect) whereas the upstream seems to be 30%.

Are those speeds typical for a 40/10 connection?

Yes that's about normal.

You might just squeeze 8 out of it, don't think I've ever seen 9 though.

But is that on a 40/2 product rather than 40/10?

Wierd, I never noticed the drop in the middle of the speeds below. Can't take it up with IDNet as I've migrated away to Plusnet 40/2.

Before were always in the 8000s, after all in the 6000s. I wonder what happened?

Possibly. But the downstream wasn't affected, and surely we would expect some wide fluctuations.

For what it's worth it's only TBB that shows that for me - I posted as much to an old thread.

Speedtest.net and speed.io both show 7 to 8Mb/s. TBB shows 5Mb/s. All testers agree on the the downstream speed now that I've switched to a wired connection on my laptop. It leads me to raise an eyebrow in the direction of the TBB tester.

Seb asked me if the other testers were multithreaded but didn't elaborate on the significance. I'll try and get a friend to help me test the upload speed using FTP from my server.

Any idea if it changed around the same dates?
