An upstream of 7Mbps seems a little on the low side, but it depends which speedtester you're using.

The BT speedtest result (taken a few minutes ago): -
Download speed achieved during the test was - 11 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 12 Mbps-38.72 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.72 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.14Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

The speed estimate for my line is 60Mbps down / 20Mbps up (I'm currently on the 40/10 product).

Clearly something is wrong this evening.
Even with a BT product, my Infinity speed has rarely dropped below around 30Mbps in speedtest results, now it's below the minimum acceptable speed of 12Mbps.

It's either you Brackley boys taking all our bandwidth (with you fibre cabinets being served from our exchange) or BT have screwed something up during the free upgrades to 80Mbps (which have been available for a week now).

I'll give it a little while before I start whining about how rubbish BT are and contemplating a switch to Sky (who have just announced a roll-out)!

The BT speed tester is up the creek tonight, following some BT Wholesale problem. Giving me a few kbps, showing as 0Mbps, where 30+Mbps is showing on tbb and speedtest.net

Lots about it on Plusnet Community forum.

Muwahahahah...er I meant 'sorry' laugh

It seemed okay to me last night but it's been a lot better since I gave up on wifi for my main machine. The upload still seems naff but only on the TBB tester. I'm trying to arrange for a friend to test my upload by pulling from my ftp server but haven't managed it yet.

I did manage a push to an FTP server in Minneapolis though and that came out at 5.5Mb/s which is what the TBB tester suggests. I'm not sure if that's good or bad though. I'd have expected the results to be a tad low for a long distance like that.

Andrue,
Did you go live with BT on Monday? If so then you should have been on the new uplift speeds of 80/20Mb. My mate went live yesterday and he's on the new speed 70/15Mb

I'm with IDNet and they aren't currently offering an 80/20 product.

The BT speed tester is up the creek tonight, following some BT Wholesale problem.

It's not just the BT speedtester, the TBB one is (still) giving very low results: -

20/04/12 17:04:29
Speed Down 2507.90 Kbps ( 2.4 Mbps )
Speed Up 5125.99 Kbps ( 5 Mbps )

Either something is seriously wrong with my 40/10 connection which is (and always has been) connected at full speed and is still giving full speed downloads using multiple threads (such as Usenet) but is giving really poor web download speeds.

So much for my theory "fibre with BT will never be as slow as my 4.5Mbps BE connection, so I may as well switch" wink

This is the first time the speed has been slow enough for me to notice and to do some speed tests.

Here's my speedtest.net result (also extremely poor).

Something is very wrong somewhere.
If I didn't know better ( and of course all the pro-BT boys out there will say that's absolutely impossible as they've got the best, fastest and biggest network wink) I'd say BT have extreme bandwidth issues and are throttling traffic (as the only way for me to get full line speed is to use multiple download threads - so there's nothing wrong with the line, connection or IP profile).

Which must mean there's something seriously wrong locally (rather than a "general" BT problem).
My connection always goes at full speed (and still does) using Usenet, but as soon as I try any regular internet downloads (or speedtests) my 40Mbps Infinity connection struggles to out-perform a sub-8Mbps ADSL connection.

It was OK until recently (either around the same time as BT's recent "outage" or about the same time as BT switch on the Brackley cabinets, which are served directly from our exchange, in Banbury, rather than the Brackley exchange).
Could be a coincidence or it could be there's an extreme lack of local capacity.
We'll see how my line performs on Monday (when my upgrade to 80/20 is due).
