Just interested, is it possible if you're syncing above 15MBit with ADSL2+ you could actually see a reduction in peak time speeds when moving to a relatively busy FTTC cab? I know Openreach guarantee 15Mbit throughput at busy times.
Cheers.

That depends to some extent on which ISP you are with now and which you would go to for FTTC. You should also surely compare peak time speed on ADSL2+ with that on FTTC, not ADSL2+ sync with FTTC speed.

It is possible, but it depends on the ISP(s).
If you are getting 15Mbt sync out of ADSL then you'll not get less out of FTTC as the amount of copper involved is going to be a lot less.
If you are switching from ADSL2+ to FTTC with the same ISP (and that ISP uses BT/OR's infrastructure for ADSL - LLU may complicate things a little) then you are going to see at least as good performance at all times. Your data is still moving between the exchange and the ISP by the same route and will be pushed around the ISPs network and peering arrangements the same way - all that is changing is the bit between you and the exchange.
If you are switching ISPs then it depends on the quality of the destination ISP.
If you did get lower throughput via FTTC and the problem was congestion within OpenReach's infrastructure then you would be getting the same reduced throughput if you were still on ADSL2+ (assuming, again, that LLU arrangements are not relevant to the discussion).

I've just realised, I think the OP is raising a hypothetical question. Viz: "Just interested ....".
He appears to be on Sky LLU sync'ed at around 5-6Mbps.

I've just realised, I think the OP is raising a hypothetical question. Viz: "Just interested ....". Aye, spotted that. Our replies are still valid methinks.
He appears to be on Sky LLU sync'ed at around 5-6Mbps. The OP could have been asking on behalf of other interested parties though.

But we both know there are so many variables involved that this particular thread could go on uselessly for ages.
It's only worth discussing thisr issue in reference to a real-life situation, with knowledge of the ISPs involved and the current line performance.
Congested DSLAM, ("busy FTTC cab")? Have we met any? End of.

I get the full whack all day every day on BT's 80/20 service.
Sync at the full 80/20 too.

Quite true there are so many variables and it could be any one of them.
I do know my current isp like all others has a contended service. Their words if want better service when in high demand periods, pay more for business broadband.
The 12meg min download is shrugged off, many a time complained with sub 3meg even 20k. The tone of the replies is that it isnt that bad, lump it.
Usually with IP 38717 at 3.20pm speeds will drop and hover 28 to 36 meg.

I notice a small slow down around this time... usually kids home from school etc.
I'm on 80/20 and usually get close to 75mb...
