Replying to my own post, I rang draytek support and now have a copy of the firmware. The subject for the firmware says Infinity 2 - IPV6 beta firmware.
Luckily the filename isnt bt related :- v2850_a4_362RC3.all
This firmware appears to sync faster with the cabinet, unfortunately this version doesnt appear to work at all with ipv6 when using the internal modem. Switching back to using the WAN port with the openreach modem, works 100% ipv4 and ipv6.

Is anyone using a Draytek 2850 (or other VDSL router) ...?
Fritz!Box 7390 working fine here on its internal VDSL2 modem with IPv4 & IPv6.
Latest firmware solves a widely discussed issue with CLI on the POTS functions for me at least, so functionally all OK. On the negative side, wireless speeds seem slow.
So I logged a call with Draytek, and this morning received their latest beta firmware for the router - v2850_362_RC3_Annex_A which seems to have done the trick - I am now conencted directly to VDSL, rather than via my ECI modem. In order to connect I have used vLAN tag 101 (widely reported as necessary elsewhere) and set WAN1 VDSL mode to VDSL only.
It is also widely discussed that BT OpenReach insist upon the use of their supplied modem as this is the customer interface. This is my long term intention, but I do want a troubleshooting tool i.e. the Draytek, without having to hack the BT OR modem, and the Draytek provides all the data I would like e.g. data rates, SNR etc., via the new VDSL status display.
Early days, and it is beta firmware, but for me its a step forward.
I have exactly the same issue - 2850 with 3.62 firmware. IPv6 only works when connected via the BT modem. Draytek spent a while looking at it and basically gave up. My ISP (A&A) say either "It should just work" or "BT say you must use their modem, so we can't help". To be fair A&A did suggest I log into their IRC channel to see if anyone had any advice, but having seen others with the same issue I have bothered...
Running IPv6 using the BT modem seems a bit odd too - the uptime for the IPv6 link never gets above a few minutes. I also run NTP servers over the link - IPv4 is fine, IPv6 behaves very strangely!
