From what burakkucrat has posted, you should already be able to get it, with something like the speed you have found elsewhere. You can get an estimate using your phone number here. That might be more accurate than the other one.

It's called Fibre To The Cabinet, right? That means it depends on your distance from your green cabinet, instead of from the exchange. YOu are connected to cabinet 45 so maybe go and find it?

There will be a new fibre cabinet within 50 metres/yards of it.

I can not check my speed via phone # as I do not have a BT line at the moment (virgin media), I check via postcode and it tells me about 3MB...

I see a couple boxes when I am out walking the dog with the openreach signs on saying Fibre available here etc... which are about a 1 minute walk away....

So how Am I able to see what speeds I can get?

Well mine is 600 metres/yards away and I get 40Mbps sync as I'm not on an 80Mbps connection. My modem stats say I should get 58.9/15.6Mbps if I upgrade.

You sound to be much closer.

You need to check using your house number and postcode, checking for FTTC by postcode will not return any FTTC results.

Just spotted your post code, for a random house 17 EX4 1LP the checker states:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 31 Mbps and upstream line speed of 5.9 Mbps.

The spreadsheet shows 100% lines at postcode are supplied from cabinet P45, you may not be on the closes cabinet, hence the lower estimate above.

I am also on the Epsom exchange, KT19 8FQ (new postcode for new development - living there <1 year) and am told I'm on cabinet 45.

Still no idea when / if this cabinet is being upgraded. Adsl checker for my telephone number says I can't get it but I would love to know if I can hope for fibre in the future.

That postcode is not in the December spread sheet, nor any mention of a cab 45 for Epsom, this often happens with new estates.

Yes those are the boxes I have seen (walk the dog along the grass behind...)... maybe I exaggerated a 1 minute walk!

So my original guess of 30Mbps was correct then? (It says to take your max current speed " 3ish" and multiply it by the "uplift" which is 11.4.?)

I was hoping for a faster speed (one to match my current VM which is 50).

Will 31 be the maximum I will be likely to see then for a while anyway?

The estimates tend to be rather conservative, if you look at Robertos post above, he's about 600 meters and his modem stats show he should get about 59ish (if he was on a faster product), but it all depends on the quality of the line from the cabinet to your modem.

Note March 2010 is when it was announced that E11 4DG on the Leytonstone exchange would have FTTP installed. Other lines at other post codes served by Leytonstone are getting or already have FTTC. Currently it is either FTTC or FTTP, end users don't have a choice as to which wil be installed. Note also that FTTP installs are running well behind schedule and to date FTTP is only available at around 10 exchanges.

Hi, i'm pretty sure that Leytonstone is 100% done as BT are apparantly using it as one of the FTTP test exchanges at the moment (never heard anything about the trial though ). What i'm confused about is does this mean my house is definitely FTTP? If it is does it mean for me to get fibre BT would need to come round and take out the entire phone line from the exchange and down my whole road and going into my house from the telegraph pole and replace it with fibre?

Installing FTTP is independent of any existing phone connection that you might have so nothing will be "ripped out". Instead a new fibe optic cable would be strung from the pole to the property and a new outlet installed.

As of the December 2011 document, the record for your postcode shows the following --

EMHARDI,HARDINGSTONE,NN45AR,{EMHARDI}{P80},0,100%,,,,

From that we see all telephone lines for your postcode are connected via P80 and that PCP was not scheduled to be enabled for fibre services.
