Re: Fibre RFS date changed

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Same here - changed from 30th June to the 1st. Here, 4 out of 9 cabs are built and ready to be switched on, but aren't. Roadworks for a 5th cabinet are scheduled for the 6th to the 19th June, Fulcrum Pipleines are scheduled to do a load of work outside the exchange from the 18th to the 26th June, planning permission for three further cabs has just about gone through (I think) at the second try, and there's a 9th cab to be built according to the December spreadsheet which I'm not sure has had permission applied for yet.

The 21CN WBC date is still 31/5, and like the FTTC, hasn't had its status changed from the "coming..." clock logo on SamKnows to a tick yet. I'm on TalkTalk LLU ADSL2+ anyway, so that doesn't really matter to me.

In short: Confusing.

My EXchange might RFS is now yesterday. Looks like It might even let me place and order, but what's the point, There is no cab yet?

I've seen the fibres being pulled in a few weeks ago, but there have been no power works (although it will be easy) and all that is present is the PCP still.

Exchanges go live when 10 cabs area ready, more follow in the weeks/months as cabs are installed/fibre pulled/power connected and finally made live.

Same for me too, was 30/6, but changed on samknows two days ago (30th may) to 1/6. My cab was done yesterday, hardly noticed a difference tbh, the markings were to the left but it was a straight replacement. Looks like the old cab but slightly bigger, no vents. No power to it yet.

It seems quite common for the old green cabinet to be re-sleeved. It happened to a few of the very old green cabinets here in Colchester but certainly not all. I imagine that it simply depends on the state of the cabinet inside (corrosion etc) as to whether the old cabinet gets resleeved.

The new fibre cabinets then followed a couple of months later after the fibre had been blown through the ducts, and then power a few weeks afterwards.

My fibre cabinet (which had several aborted attempts at installation) also moved from having an RFS of 30th June on Tuesday 29th to available to order on 30th May. Awaiting installation now smile

Yes, RFS just refers to the exchange. The exchange will show as live when only a couple of cabinets are live, then you will see more going live over the following months / year smile

I have seen some BTOR engineers sticking some tubing in different places to hold the fibre, but since then nothing.

i am looking at going for Point to point wireless again, I did look at it a few weeks back, but now looking again, I can get 5megabits for £18 a month which is more than I am getting now and for less money, plus i can get rid of phone line. they also do a 10megabits for £29, which is a bit of a jump.

OR have beeing doing a replacement program in our area where all the cast iron cabinets got a new sheet steel one.

As for the RFD date our exchange went "live" march 2011 and they are still rolling out FTTC cabs in our town.

It is a very big town with one big central exchange and it just takes time to get the cabs done.

considering that we are suppose to be having fibre at the end of this month I thought things would be moving a bit, but so far nothing at all, no Or vans since they put the tubing in, no cabinets at the side of roads, No one i asked have seen anything, so it looks like it is not going to happen.

Still not sure what to do myself, but I think I will wait for a couple of weeks and if I see no movement then I will order the wireless service as I will be on holiday in three weeks time so I can get it installed when I am on holiday as it takes a couple of hours.

34 cabs here and out of the 20 or so I know about there has been no apparent work done at all. I doubt I'll be ordering this year personally as there is no competition in this town from Virgin so nothing to hurry BT along.

The problem seems to be coming not from BT but from the power installation companies.

There was a 5 month wait for UK power networks to install the power and in the end they still sent a sub contractor to do it.

And we are in a Virgin area so you would expect OR to be pushing hard to get it rolled out here.

I'd love to know BT's rationale behind this as I'm in a Virgin area and BT have no plans to FTTC my exchange (CMKING), at least as far as I can check, which is till the end of 2013.
