VSDL modem/routers

Do any of the few FTTC modem/routers on the market allow for any tweaking of the connection (SNRM etc)?

Fritz!Box 7390 has a settings page where it is possible to adjust intended SNR, Impilse Noise Protection and Identification of RFI, each have 5 steps from the (default) maximum performance towards maximum stability.

But does the "Maximum performance" allow you to reduce the SNRM below the DSLAM set value? Or do the steps start from that and merely add stability by raising it?

They merely add stability as you've guessed, no way of reducing the target SNRM at least through the GUI...
