Re: New PlusNet FTTC lineup required - when?

Sorry epyon, I'm being selfish. If it was me I'd as vociferous as the next man.

I hope it gets sorted out, really.

In that case, i now have to look for another ISP (sorry PlusNet). No chance i'm getting Sky or BT because I need fixed IP, i also need (ideally) an ISP that does web hosting... Suggestions please...

Why do you need an ISP that does web hosting ?

Surely it would be better to use someone like 1&1, then if you move ISP you don't have to muck about with your web hosting, this is what I done with my domain name, costs about £2 a year and just forwards my emails to my ISPs account.

Great idea. Thanks. PlusNet is my ISP and webhost as well... I still need to sort out which ISP to move to though. Right now, I'm thinking either Zen or ADSL24. Or maybe stick with ADSL (BE, Aquiss or ADSL24) on a short-term contract, then move to FTTC when there is a good offer... or when PlusNet finally update and upgrade their lineup.

You move the web and email hosting first. Then when you migrate your broadband there is little to change, if you do it RONSKI's way, and nothing at all to change if you do it my way.

He said forward the email to your ISP service. I recommend connecting direct to the host's email instead. See my sig for my recommendation, and see this page for a fuller explanation of the way things work.

BT Business has static IP available, but what do you need it for?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk
My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - Plusnet Value Fibre.

The things is - i'm getting 2 separate services from PlusNet, for ISP & web hosting. I'm now free to terminate ISP contract, but the hosting is fully paid 'til next year. I really need to move to another ISP soon to the inadequacy of PlusNet. Should I also move to another hosting service, or should I stay with PlusNet?

It's fair to say BT Business has static IP, but is this available for residential (non-business) customers?

Several residential posters here have BT Business, mainly for the static IP, running on residential phone lines. I don't think there is any problem.

I live in a house using a residential phone line, but also have a business Infinity package without any problems at all. If you wish to pay the extra premium on the price tag you can do so even if your phone line is residential. I've got five static IP's, option 2 and unlimited traffic.

I read that differently... as in could a residential account have a static IP.. not could a residential user have a business account wink
