I mean stream games that i'm playing so people can watch, for high quality you need a high upload speed.

Got a email back yesterday from them annd it said ".......I can confirm that the upload speed is between one and half to two MBs at most times bordering on the two more."

so maybe not what you want, you may be best to wait for fibre. I will try and remember to let you know how fast it is when I get installed.

A week Thursday is install date, I hope so as the next day my ADSL broadband will cease. this is a bit of a risk for me, because if they can't install it I won't have any broadband.
Should not have any problem unless it is blowing a gale and pouring with rain.

She said there is little reason why I can't get it, i am less than a mile away from the cathedral.

How do you find it?

Can you also tell me if they use PPoE to connect?

That is a bit of a variation, if it did that with 5 megabits I would end up going from 1megabit to 6megabits. how far away are you from the access point? Still what you get with all pay will still be better than what you would get with ADSL where you are.

do you have a router or connect straight to the computer?

This anonymous thing is confusing, Are you both the same person?

Thanks for the reply/replies.
i did think about Fibre, but Bt seems to be dragging their behind around here and so far nothing seems to have been done.

i don't really need 80Mb/s or 40 for that matter and to be honest that thought of getting away from Bt network pleases me.

As for the router, I can use any cable router I want to, but they will not support it, in other words if I have a problem with the settings in my router I will have to sort it out myself as they only support Belkin or Netgear,.

Fair enough, other ISps willl only support the equipment they give out and i did not use what they give me anyway, prefer to use my own, and for the last 2 years I have been on my own router wise apart from forums like this one.

I am just under a mile from the access point which is on the cathedral, so if all goes wel i should get a pretty decent signal. i am starting at 5 megabits and then after a couple of months I will up to 10 if I need to.

As i said before, I am not too bothered about high speed as long as I can get done what I want to get done.

I did ask before, I will try again smile, do they use PPoE for connection?
