Allensmore is a few miles out, not sure when they will put fibre out there, I know people living all around the city and yes some get good speeds, others get naff speeds, some times it is where they live and other times it is their ISP that is the problem.
example, A mate lives just in Cottrell Street and gets more thean 15 megabits, using Vivaciti on the Cable and wireless network and yet someone around the corner gets 8 with Talk Talk. In thoery they should get a better service as they are closer to the exchange.
My brother around Hunderton gets 4megabits with the post office, or he did, not sure what he will get when they change to Talk Talk equipment. someone else I know that lives pretty close to him gets 2 with Sky.
My next door neighbour gets 1.5 with BT, I had 3.5 with ADSL24 using the Cable and Wireless network.
What Tescos do your friend live by?
Don't get me wrong fibre is a good thing, I am sure many people will go for it, but many will not, certainly not if they got a good ADSL speed as they may feel it is not worth the extra cost.
I admit I am not like a lot of people, most people don't care who supplies their service, other wise there would not be as many people with Sky TV. Myself i just want to get as far away from BT as I can at the moment. i know my phone and my broadband was not with Bt, but their network still comes to my house.
Maybe in a couple of years time I may go for fibre, but hopefully by that time All pay will have faster speeds at prices to compete with fibre. If it was all about money then I would stay as I was as paying £100 to install the broadband, plus other costs for new router did not come lightly I can tell you. also to get 10 megabits it will cost me £29 a month, about the cost of fibre, but I will not be paying line rental so that willl be a good thing.
