Many of the cabs already in place seem to be finsihed, in that the tie-ducts are tarmaced and the barriers are gone. perhaps this really qucik push was to get to the threshold when the exchange can be decalred live. Can someone confirm I recall reading they need 10 cabs to do so?

I dont have a banded profile, sync wanders freely, I have graphs for several years, I think maybe they got water in my connections and it's making a better connection than the copper lol.

Lucky you I think, I suffered for a few years with Bt profiling, solved the problem when I went to ADSl24 and the cable and wireless network..

This is one of the reasons i was not really that bothered about going for fibre, not until Bt sorts out their profiling system, which even on fibre people still seems to have problems with. It is Bt after all, can't expect much else from the useless company

As you can tell, I am not a fan of BT, i don't know who is worse, Bt or Talk Talk.

The 10 CAB story is an urban myth like so many other aspects of the FTTC roll-out.

Logically for an exchange to be accepting orders (which may not be the same as "ready for service" or the OpenReach Twitter posttng "High speed broadband is starting to be availabile at xxxxxx"") there needs to be one CAB live.

One of the BT resellers (ASDL24?) has posted on TBB that they know of at least one case where an exchange went live with only 2 CABs and some small exchanges have less than 10 CABs!

Obviously many facts determine the date of go-live - very few of which are available to us!

Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download
BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload ON THE LINE THAT SKY COULD ONLY PROVIDE 15,255 DOWN AND 800 UP ON!!!,
Moved house, now BE Unlimited 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
FTTC Cab installation commenced 12th April - expect full 80 / 20 - bye bye BE, hello BT Infinity soon!

The cab at Holmer Roundabout was being finished at 6:30pm as I was going past, it was being retarmaced and looks like it's now complete. Making extremely fast progress here in Hereford, I'm very impressed. I'm connected to one of two cabs (both of which are due to be upgraded). One is the cabinet near the Co-Op in three elms which has just started having the ducting done (70% of lines of my postcode come from this), and the other is on kempton avenue which hasn't been started yet.

The one by the Co-op in college road is now in place, still got barriers around it.
They are big ugly things, i feel sorry for the poor people who have them outside their house.

The one down here is against the same hedge as the original, so the poor people who live there have to get past two cabs to get their hedge cut.
I bet they are not happy, saying that if they want Fibre, they should get a great speed.

All Pay is going to expand their bandwidth, which while it will not be 30megabits, it should allow people to get the speed they want most of the time, which is great for people who can't get broadband at all never mind fibre and for people like myself who don't want fibre.

Still dreading the reps from Tallk Talk coming around the doors once fibre is up and running, maybe I should put a note on the door, no telecom reps and that includes Talk Talk.

i just seen that on Facebook, not sure how much they would charge for that, i would only pay another fiver.

They do need to update their bandwidth, while I am happy with the service for the most part it can slow down. i was put onto the 10 megabits last night until today just to try something out and while things was faster, I never did get up to ten megabits or any where near.

i was talking to a engineer and he was saying that speedtest are not all they crack up to be, which to a certain degree i know what he means. I done some speed tests last night and I got around two megabits, But when I used netflix not long after I was getting extra high HD, i never knew Netflix went that high smile

so speedtests must be incorrect.

I must say one thing about Allpay, customer service is great, i had a phone call yesterday and he phoned up again today. i am back to five megabits now, going to wait middle of next month when they update the bandwidth.

they need to now as they have a fair few people on the network now, if the customer reference is anything to go by then i was the 395th person to go onto their network.

What you do is up to you at the end of the day, but sky may not even take you on for FTTC if you are too far away. If I was in your shoes I would wait until the end of next month and see what upgrades All pay do, i think these upgrades and if you are right about them offering 35 megabits to home users, then it could be because of BT FTTC coming here, they got to compete.

i got two years contract with All pay, so unless their service is really bad, which to be honest it is not, I got until then to decide if I will go fibre or not, but I can't see it to be honest unless things in my life changes.
