Re: Hereford PCP & FTTC Cabinet Map

Hi Folks,

I've at the moment prevented anyone from being able to edit the map. However there doesn't seem to be a way to revert changes a user has made, it seems pretty limited frown
I've reported the problem to Google, however I doubt they will care.

What an absolute [censored], I'm fuming at how he's just come along and ruined our map for no reason. :/

If you could PM me your email address Lorian and I can add you as a collaborator, same to anyone else who would like to edit it

Shame. I was about to compliment you on your work of mapping the cabinets. How did you do it? Through physically eye-balling them all? Is there a way to dump the coordinates of the cabinets, to save them?

Is anyone taking photos of the equipment inside the new cabinets? Presumably it's Huawei? The SmartAX MA5616 MSAN, maybe? [1]

cheers, a

Three sources of information. 1 an anonymous benefactor who placed the cabs based on postcode. 2. update based quite a lot of observations (I get out more than most), 3. Dragging and drop the rest using google streetmaps.

I have found away to backup the locations now, but the damage is done. If we can be motivated we will fix it.

It's not gloomy here though - I have an update from the streets (quite literally):

"Fibre is in to most of the new cabs already"
"We might be live in as little as 2 weeks."

The cab I looked in earlier today was one of the Huwaei 288's (although perhap it only had a 144 pair frame and some space). It had Power, quad fibres and tie-cables all in place. The fibres came from black and yellow containement, presumably to ward off copper theives. Could easily have been the MA5616 MSAN of which you speak, certainly looked like it.

The smaller cabinets are of a different design to some that have been posted, I haven't seen inside one, but I suspect they might offer 96 connections as when they have been marked up on the pavement in a couple of locations I've seen 96 painted. Wouldn't bet my life on it.

Lots of the work appears to be done by Carillion/Telent.

Yeah, the responses I'm getting from the Google Forums seem to suggest there's nothing we can do now (bit of a major failure in Google's implementation I think!), however as you said we can backup.

I'll try and correct cabinets I come across, but it's more cabinets I can see unfortunately, I have no data as such

Looks like you're getting VIP treatment from Openreach! (perhaps that explains the Google Maps vandalism - politics of envy?!)

Below is a small album of photos of the Huawei SmartAX MA5616. This is the MSAN unit that is currently being installed in the Huawei FTTC street cabinets across Blighty. [1]

These photos were taken/belong to Walter Willcox.

BT has opted for a quite sophisticated battery backup system. The power board on the MSAN itself is 48VDC only. Some photos of the MSAN (PDIA) power board module are here. [2] Uninterrupted power is provided to the MSAN by some hefty cells at the foot of the cabinet.

The Huawei 288 cabinet has capacity for two MA5616 MSANs, each supporting four VDSL2 line cards, providing per MSAN a total of 192 ports at 17MHz.

cheers,
a

Indeed, I noticed 3 or 4 large grey-topped cells in the bottom of the cab.

If you look at the map now you can see the true extent of the damage. I've moved most of the PCPs that "Dave" vandalised off to two groups.

It will take quite some time to repair manually.

If the annonymous benefactor who imported the original locations would be so kind as to PM me the file I could merge the co-ordinates for the messed up cabs in a few minutes. Annonymity assured of course.

Most of the south-side green cabs are now in the right places, I'll do some more later.
