Re: FTTC in Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs

[re: R0NSKI] [link to this post]

It's useful that you can now get information about multiple cabinets. I emailed Openreach too about my cabinet (NDTHA31) and they replied as follows:

Your cabinet is indeed cab 31, the weeds would actually be the responsibility of the landowner, (usually the council), however, once your cabinet is enabled there will be regular visits by engineers who will clear the growth to enable access.

However, regarding the enablement of your cabinet for fibre broadband. We have been experiencing difficulties providing the fibre optic cable to your cabinet. We install special tubing in our existing ductwork and then blow the fibre optic cable down the tubing from the exchange to the cabinet. However, whilst doing this, we have found a number of blockages which is preventing the provision of the tubing. We are excavating where necessary, this involves notices to the council, which can slow things down, prior to excavation. The project manager now believes we will be enabling your cabinet for service at the end of September/ early October.

You should then be able to place your order.

Hi Slimj

I'd hate to think that you "have to make do with Vfast..."

The topic of next-gen speeds has be discussed a lot recently and we are working on packages that will compare well with FTTC yet are available in non-FTTC areas as well as FTTC areas, giving people the choice to ditch BT.

We've got a lot of upgrades to do and Staner Flats (Manston) is very high on the list. Once complete we'll have a licensed microwave radio link capable of several hundred Mbps (upgradable to Gbit) to supply Manston and the Thanet area.

We will then be able to increase speeds and packages similar to that offered by FTTC.

Regards,

Hi Tim, apologies if my comment came across sounding as if I'm fed up of VFast, I'm certainly not, the service has been fab! smile

I think my thoughts are more around the fact that Thanet is being fibre'd up while missing some of the rural areas which is a little unfair although I understand that these exchanges serve far less people than those in Ramsgate and Margate so it's not cost viable to upgrade these exchanges. Just over the road (near Staner) will be sitting pretty with up to 80mbit connections while our village of Manston is stuck on 1-2mbit, if it wasn't for VFast then I can't imagine how painful the internet would be to use!

Great to hear about the plans. I'm sure customers would appreciate regular (monthly / quarterly updates) on news from VFast similar to what was issued back in October last year (http://www.vfast.co.uk/news/blog/?p=84) so we can hear about the latest news and plans just for peace of mind that the company and service is always moving forward. smile

HI Slimj

The website is being redesigned and will give us a much better way to keep people updated.

Everything is moving forward, just this week we've taken on another engineer who is being trained so that we can keep up with demand.

No new live ones in Margate/Thanet but a few are now giving speed estimates - NDTHA1 (a reappearance!), NDTHA34 & NDTHA45. 2 days ago NDTHA21 lost its speed estimates after over 3 weeks of showing them.

It's probably best if I stop reporting speed estimates as all the ones I reported yesterday have gone again!

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has managed to complete an order on NDTHA18?

I placed an order with BT on the 27th and everything was going well. Now they have told me that its not available, trying to get down to the bottom of it as the original person I spoke with was far from helpful. Emailed BT but only got what seemed to be a template response to Infinity enquiries about how the council ma effect if a cabinet can be put in. This further served to frustrate me as I can see the cabinet at the end of the road so they clearly didn't look in to it so I have escalated my complaint. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

Thanks, Edd

I've just checked 6 addresses on NDTHA 18 and all are showing FTTC available to order.

Can you PM me you your address (I guess your in Nash Lane or Nash Court Rd) and I'll check what the checker shows for your specific address, it may be a database error in which case you'll need to email Open Reach to get the error corrected.

Edit: You may need to register to send a PM, or just post your post code

Have just PM'd my details although I have checked using my address and it shows as available on the BT wholesale ADSL checker. How do I go about contacting openreach?

Thanks,
