Is there an actual acceptable distance from PCP > DSLAM ?

pretty sure my newly installed DLSAM is around 34meters from PCP, it has been istalled around the corner in a completely different street lol

At 34 meters from PCP to DSLAM what would be the actual affect on speed?

That sort of distance, depending on how direct the tie-ins run between the PCP and the fibre cabinet, would add a minimum of 68 metres to the line length which would affect the speed by between about 5 and 20 Mbps depending on how long the line to the cabinet is (based on figures published on TBB back in April).

It will add 68m to the voice side but only 34m to the VDSL signal.

would that still be about 68m total?

No, just 34m to the VDSL which is what you are interested in.

The cable from te exchange terminates in the PCP. With ADSL (and plain voice with no ADSL/VDSL), that is jumpered across to a pair that feeds your house.

For VDSL, the incoming pair is jumpered to a pair in a tie cable which then goes to the VDSL cabinet where the incoming fibre is terminated. The tie pair connects to an input side and the voice circuit is multiplexed with the data (VDSL) signal. This combined signal is fed back to the PCP on another tie pair and when it reaches the PCP it is jumpered to the cab le connected to your house.

So, the voice goes from PCP to VDSL cabinet and back, whereas the VDSL signal only make one trip, from cabinet to PCP and, in this case, adds 34m to the path length.

got this from openreach

"As you say, the cab is now stood and the power has been connected,
The power company will now have to fit an electric meter and certify that the cabinet is safe.

The next stages will be to connect the fibre optic cable, install and connect cables between the DSLAM and the existing telephony cabinet.
We will have to conduct light loss tests at the DSLAM and test the telemetry. We then move onto commissioning and bring the cab into service.
I dont as yet have any dates, but will keep you informed of progress."

this was before i realized the distance

I don't think it'll make a HUGE difference. As long as you're nice and near the cab already.

I have around 30 - 50m of cabling on my property alone before the master and still get the full 80Mbps with the modem reporting over 100Mbps attainable.
