Re: Hereford FTTC - Part 3

Ordered my fttc connection on 30/8/12 was installed on 13/9/12, took the OR engineer 45 mins to re-route cable form old cab (19) to new cab and install and test the new modem. Was told I should get 69.6Mbps, currently getting 74.1Mbps - that should drop down as more people take up the new technology. My ISP is Zen Internet - a bit pricey but their tech support is excellent, no profiling etc... Been with them for ages and hassle free.

Is there a list if all the ISP who can offer this service in Hereford?

How do you know when a cab is close enough to your house?

No list, but there are a a few ISPs offering the service, including smaller ones ADSL24, and larger ones, like Plusnet, Bt, sky, Talk Talk.

The best way maybe to find out if you can get fibre is to go hereto BT website and click check your speed, it will come up if you got FTTC and if not when are you going to get it.

it will say if you can get infinity which is their brand name of FTTC.

what ISP are you with?

Or you can use the real checker which is ISP independent and the date is always an ESTIMATE as you well know. It quite often changes a LOT.

Well it's install day for me!

OK so to find out which cab you are connected to go here:

http://fttc-check.alc.im/

and a map of cabs done by Lorian of this forum is here:

https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msid=2038197937670145...

but to be honest you can just use the BT checker to see what you can get. I always use the address checker because I'm with SKY.

http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.address

As for a list of ISP's any that resell BT's FTTC product which include:

BT

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProduc...

Sky

http://www.sky.com/products/broadband-talk/broadband...

Zen

http://www.zen.co.uk/business/broadband/fibre-optic-...

Plusnet

http://www.plus.net/fibre-broadband/?source=carousel...

Eclipse

http://www.eclipse.net.uk/fibre-broadband/what-is-fttc-

Talk Talk

http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/products/broadband/fibre...

There is probably plenty more, you have to look at the terms and conditions to find out whats best for you because some throttle p2p, some have usage limits and the prices all vary - I'm with Sky because I am already with them and they come out at £20 for an unlimited connection because I have land line with them already.

Perfect, I just tried infinity with my number and it says I can get it now, but only 34 mb//6mb, not the 76mb, I guess must be a way from the cab?

I am guessing if I can get infinity I can get sky or sky won't be far behind.

I already have sky tv, so might gor for one of their packages, the bt tv thing seems lacking channels I want.

Then again infinity has some nice benefits and I already pay the bt line rental.

I'm with all pay right now who I love, awesome service, but downloading at 3x the speed and insane uploading which I often need for work would be insanely faster at 6 mb.

Thanks Cloister.

I'm apparently on cab96 which says coming soon,,but Infinity site says I can get it now,,perhaps it's not 100% updated.

I did try the dsl checker link but it says page not found.

Engineer visit booked for October 9th, this is going to be the longest wait ever! lol I've decided to go with Sky this time as it was only £20 a month and it's supposed to not have a FUP, fingers crossed it's not a bad decision...

Appointment booked 2 days ago, closest install date is 17th of october. Wow, was expecting a long wait for almost 4 weeks? Let's just hope they turn up on that day and don't cancel.

Also, if my master socket doesn't have electrical sockets that close to it will they move the master socket?
